11  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / I Love Day Planners SO Much That I Finally Made Some! (Picture Heavy) on: November 11, 2007 02:03:20 PM
I am an organizer FREAK (but somehow still so disorganized)!

When I was in school, buying a new planner was my favourite part of the getting-ready rituals.  Then, as soon as January came around I would find a wicked planner on sale and I would have to ditch my months old one.

Ever since I've started crafting I've wanted to design my own datebook, and last month I finally got around to it.

I used old library due date cards as a starting point for the design.  I left the actual "date" part of the page blank, so that I can start using them anytime.

I designed the pages by using Paint, Word, Scanners and Photoshop.  This is my very first attempt at any type of graphic designing.  It was kind of fun actually!

I also added a book list section because a) I'm a lists freak and b) I'm a books freak.  There's two sections; Books to Be Read and The Best Books.  I've already started filling them out.

I did two different covers.  Same words; different fonts.  I laminated the covers myself but the binding was done by the good people at Staples.  Now I want a coil binding machine for Christmas!   ***To the best of my knowledge the images used on the covers are either allowed to be used and/or are in public domain.  Please let me know if you have proof to the contrary:)***

Anyway, here's some pictures.  You can click on the link below the photos for a larger shot.

12  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / RoboLove and the Sleepless Owl. My First Attempt on Canvas... on: October 03, 2007 10:02:38 PM
So I'm invading a new board on Craftster.  It's wonderful and can only mean that I'll be add more stuff to my craft room.

I've wanted to try to put paint to canvas for a long long time now.  However, it's something that I have felt a little more than intimidated about.  Anywho, I've decided that perfection is besides the point and I went ahead and did something.

Here's my Robot Lovers...

And here's my sweet little insomniac owl...

The writings says mon hibou san sommiel doux which translates to my owl without soft sleep (or so I think).

It was fun!  I dig them and I hope you do too!
13  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Autumn Flip on: September 13, 2007 10:41:24 PM
So this necklace is the first in a series of adjustable necklaces with an extra large toggle closure.

It's a new style that I've been playing around with.  I like it and I think it speaks well to my own personal style.

Here she is:

It's a pretty simple necklace and doesn't take much in way of construction.  If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask!

I think I'd like to try out a different chain just for something different.  Is anyone familiar with somewhere online to buy good quality chain at a decent price?
14  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Whatever! She's the World's Greatest! Shrink Plastic Necklaces for a Friend on: September 13, 2007 10:34:13 PM
So I'm sending off a birthday package to my friend in Korea.  I miss her tonnes and I wanted to make a little something something to show her that I care.

In the good ole days she and I would sit in the office and blab on and make poop jokes.  We're living proof that age has very little to do with maturity.  Grin

Anywoo, she and my husband (who works in the same office) would yammer on and on about which of them was actually The World's Greatest.  Hands down it's her, but I can't appear to play favourites.

So in tribute to my favourite I made a couple WG's necklaces.  Here they are:

I also decided to add another necklace to the bunch.  She's a big fan of the word tevs as a substitute for whatever.  I tried once to use behaviour modification techniques to kill the over usage of the word, but it ended up with me laughing on the floor.

Here's the finished piece:

I know it's not super impressive work, but it was fun to try out shrink plastic for the first time.
15  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / My Newest Pieces! I'm Loving the Layered Thing! (IMAGE HEAVY) on: September 08, 2007 03:26:18 PM
Hey Everyone!

I just wanted to post some of my newer pieces.  I've been doing the long wrap necklaces lately.  I generally use 3 pieces of tigers tail wire and intertwine beads and whatnot on them.  I usually end up with something that I like.

If anyone has any questions on techniques or sources for beads, please feel free to ask here or PM me.  I'm more than happy to help..

I've included small photos in the post, but the links below the photo show a much larger photo for greater detail.

18  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / Hello Potter and Guitar Hero! The Gifting of Co-Workers Continues! on: August 09, 2007 05:41:43 PM
Here's two of my latest stenciled pieces.

My boss (and friend) has a love for all things Hello Kitty and Harry Potter.  So, for her birthday I thought that I would combine them both into one purple shirt.

Here she is in all her glory:

Another one of my fantastic co-workers is leaving for grad school.  First, you should know that she is THE Guitar Hero.  I know lots of us think we are, but meet her and you'll understand that it's not so.

19  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Mad Jewelry Spree! I Think Necklaces and I Have To Take a "Break" !!IMG PLUMP!! on: August 06, 2007 04:15:28 PM
I've been beading up a storm in my craft room over the last few weeks.  I go back to necklaces whenever I feel like I'm getting stressed out.  I consider it low-impact crafting with high-end results (witty huh?  I know!  Wink)

If anyone is ever interested in where I get my materials I'd be more than willing to share.  I won't post in here because it's against the rules, but over time I've managed to find some really good/inexpensive shops online.  I'm not affiliated with them at all, I'm more of an admiring shopper.

You can click on the link underneath for a larger photo!

First is a sky-blue multi-strand necklace with a lampwork pendant.  I actually picked up the pendant on the island of Murano in Italy.  I had the chance to see some pretty amazing glasswork there.

The second necklace is a silver-mounted piece of pink agate strung on several strands of silver-lined transparent beads.  It's kind of too sparkly for me (or maybe too pink for me?).

This one is similar to the pinkie necklace, but I like the green pendant a little bit more.  I think when I bought it I was told it was gaspeite (sp?).  I'm more green than pink (but way more pink/green than anything else).

This is a chunky little thing.  I actually bought these beads at the Dollar Store.  Materials for this thing were MAYBE $4.  I love Dollar Stores.  I know they're a tad bit evil, but when you have a bargaining soul....

Ohhh I like this one too.  I reminds me of delicious green olives!

Like I said before, pink and green is one of my FAVOURITE colour combos.  Here's one of my many homages to their beautiful relationship!

Here's a closer/clearer detail of the pendant.  I picked this one up in Italy as well.

I made this one just yesterday.  It's one of my favourites for sure.  I just started working with tigers tail wire.  For this one I used 3 lengths of wire and made up a random wiring mess.  Pretty mess in my opinion though.  It's made with manmade turquoise, freshwater pearls and glass beads.

This one I threw together for a friends birthday gift.  She said that she digs the blue/brown colour combo.  I don't feel like I did it justice, but perhaps this one just isn't my thing.  It's most just glass beads with some freshwater pearls thrown in once in a while.

This is my ode to art deco.  Whenever I think of it I think of black and white.  A simple mess of random glass beads.  I used the same tigers tail wire method with this one.

And finally here's one of my best pieces yet (or in my opinion anyway).  It's made with Brazilian landscape jasper.  I'm not much of a gemstone/rock person, so I really have no idea what it all means.  But I do like the simplicity of the stones.  They remind me of the scene in Amelie where she collects flat rocks for skipping.

If anyone has questions about how to put any of this together feel free to ask.  I'm beading all the time, so I could easily take photos along the way. Smiley

20  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / First Attempt @ Microscope Slide Pendants! I've Got Blisters!! on: July 29, 2007 10:14:33 PM
I've been meaning to hop on the microslide pendant bandwagon for some time now.  I've been busy lately trying to put together new and interesting things for a *possible* portfolio.  Hopefully this will make a good addition!

I love vintage illustrations.  Every few months I go on a splurge on kids books at thrift stores and yard sales.  I get home as quickly as I can and start cutting out the really cool/quirky drawings.

Getting the knack of soldering only took about an hour.  It's attaching the jump ring that makes me crazy.  I burned my fingertips so many times last night.  I would completely heat up a ring and grab it up a few seconds later without thinking.

Oh, and I must say thank you to alycimo for the tutorial

Here's some of the stuff that I came up with:
