2  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Tinkerbell on: July 22, 2012 08:39:29 PM
I was searching for a Tinkerbell ami for the best friend's birthday present, but I could not find a pattern I was happy with....so of course I came up with my own. It took about two weeks of crocheting and thinking and ripping out before I was finally happy. She did however turn out to be like 10xs larger than I expected....she's literally like 2-3 feet tall.

And yes her hair was stitched in strand by strand....yeah I'm THAT anal-retentive and OCD. But it gave her such a more polished look than just crochet.

Thanks for looking!

8  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Re: Washing Fabric Question on: January 10, 2011 03:55:15 PM
I, too, usually wash my fabric, but I recently purchased Lisa Lam's (U-handbag) "The Bag Making Bible." She says she never washes fabric.  Instead, she suggests that bags should be spot cleaned, not washed.  I've got to say that I so seldom wash my own bags that I'm about to adopt Lisa's recommendations!

Thanks so much! That is great advice. I could probably send a little "Care Card" with my bags to tell the buyer to Spot Clean only.
9  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Washing Fabric Question on: January 10, 2011 10:21:27 AM
I've been going back and forth with this so I thought I would get some expert opinions. I never washed my fabrics before making purses...mostly because they were just for personal use. But I want to start selling them and figured I needed to wash them just in case the customer wants to as well, so it would avoid problems. I work at a fabric store and have asked some customers who make bags and...to my surprise...they don't wash their fabrics. The issue I had when I washed my fabrics was that even with a ton of ironing, they still had a bit of faint wrinkle that drove me insane. Which is why I wanted to go back to not washing.

Any suggestions? What do you all do when you make bags to sell? To wash or not?

Thanks so much.
