1  Tinkerbell in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by OlalalaurenO on: July 22, 2012 08:39:29 PM
I was searching for a Tinkerbell ami for the best friend's birthday present, but I could not find a pattern I was happy with....so of course I came up with my own. It took about two weeks of crocheting and thinking and ripping out before I was finally happy. She did however turn out to be like 10xs larger than I expected....she's literally like 2-3 feet tall.

And yes her hair was stitched in strand by strand....yeah I'm THAT anal-retentive and OCD. But it gave her such a more polished look than just crochet.

Thanks for looking!
xo Lauren

8  A Tutorial -- Changing Color in Tunisian Crochet in Crochet: Discussion and Questions by OlalalaurenO on: October 12, 2010 05:48:59 PM
I've had a few questions about changing colors in Tunisian crochet and since I'm not the greatest at explaining things I decided to make a little picture tutorial...I hope this helps everyone!!

Begin your crochet as usual and pull up a loop. I have done three stitches in my first row and am starting my fourth stitch here:

Pull the yarn through and you now have another stitch (I now have 4):

When you're ready to change your color, insert your hook into the next stitch and instead of pulling up a loop in the same yarn, grab your new color

And pull it through:

There are now 4 loops of one color and 1 new color loop (5 total) on the hook.

Again, insert your hook and pull up a loop in the new color:

Now there are 6 total loops, 4 in the old color and two in the new color:

Continue your stitches until you are ready to change color again (if you choose, if not just finish the row) Once you're ready to change color again repeat the process again of inserting the hook, pulling up a loop in the new color:

New color loop on the hook

Finish your row to the end and begin your return row. When you reach your color change you will have one loop of each color on the hook.

Draw the color you are changing to through both of the loops

Work until you need to change again and repeat the process--one loop of each color is on the hook, pickup color you are changing to and pull through the loops

I found that when I change color in the row I get this hole between the two colors on the return row

To close it all you need to do is take the previous color yarn and pull it, but not too tight

On the back you are going to need bobbins if you want to carry your colors up through the work.

It really depends on what you're working on whether you will want to carry your colors through or if you'll want to cut them and weave them in.

Your row is finished

I really hope this helped you all with questions or anyone wanting to know how this works. This may not be perfect and it is definitely not the only way I'm sure to do it but its what works for me. If you have more questions just let me know!!

PS: Sorry I did thumbnails but I didn't want to make the post like extremely long.

9  Super Mario 3 Afghan in Crochet: Completed Projects by OlalalaurenO on: October 01, 2010 10:42:55 PM
Last Christmas I decided I wanted to be an awesome sister and make my brother the coolest afghan ever--Mario from SMB 3 (only the best SMB game ever). Well that didn't quite go as planned. I waited too long and had never done the tunisian stitch...so this is what I ended up with. Took me about two weeks or so I guess? Don't really remember...Don't get me wrong I love it...kinda wanted to keep it...but it could have been better. Its pretty small so I guess it could be considered more of a lap blanket than an afghan.

The back (which of course I forgot to photo) is covered with black fleece because there was NO way in heck I was weaving all of those ends in (another missed Kodak moment). The edges are a bit wonky I washed and blocked it but there was no way it was gonna straighten out. Any ideas on what I could have done different to make them straight? I bet its because I did it too tight...try as I might not to be I'm a tight crochet-er.

One more photo with the pup to show size....average sized Yorkie so you can tell how small it was...

oh well guess I should have thought it out more considering my brother is about 6'5. Meh I still think I'm the coolest sister for this  Wink It would look great on the back of the couch too...or a chair lol

Thanks for looking and listening!

I found this picture of the back of the afghan (in progress). Like all those tails? haha which is why I put fleece on the back. Excuse the crappy cell phone picture but I had to share what a nightmare can develop when you change colors!
