1  Mittens! in Knitting: Completed Projects by SlytherinPrefect on: December 10, 2007 08:25:16 AM
This is not the first non-square thing I've knitted, but it's one of the first ones.

I used the "Funky Fur Mittens" pattern from "The Knitter's Bible: Knitted Accessories" and US size 10-1/2 needles.  I modified the pattern to include ribbing in the cuff because the mittens in the pattern had a rope-tie-thing.  Which is weird on mittens.  The yarn is Yarn Bee's Mosaic Twist in the "Moody Blue" colorway.

My first attempt was awful.  It was way too small and just...not good.  You can't really tell from the pictures, but it was uncomfortable.

2  Baby Booties from SnB Nation in Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller by SlytherinPrefect on: September 23, 2007 11:02:42 PM
Here's my most recent FO, and my first time making something more complex than a ribbed iPod sock:

Or, alternately, link to the pic: http://www.seekingsolace.net/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/booties.jpg

They are for my soon-to-be-niece-or-nephew (hence the neutral non-gender-specific color).  Cheesy

3  Jeans into gift pillow - 3 IMGs in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by SlytherinPrefect on: December 12, 2006 11:59:23 PM
I made this pillow for my best friend for Christmas this year with an old pair of jeans.  I just cut off the bottom of one of the legs and ripped one of the pockets off the butt, then sewed it to one side of the leg.  I sewed the bottom edge, then stuffed it with two pieces of an old mattress pad (I'm out of polyfil, and this'll hold the square shape a little better).  I folded the top over like wrapping a present and hand-sewed it down.  I embroidered the back and wrote a little poem-type thing and stuck it in the pocket.

Here it is all wrapped up:

Here's the front:

And here's the back:

I'm not sure if you can see that embroidery, but it says "Kimmy + Katie" which (obviously) are our names.

The letter says this:
"A best friend is like a good pair of jeans.

She's flexible when you need her to be.

She's long on style and short on pain.

She fits you in all the right places.

She goes with you everywhere.

She never needs alterations or repairs, because she's perfect just the way she is.

She's great in any season, for any reason.

She's beautiful.  She's part of how you identify yourself.

You are my best pair of jeans.

I love you.

This pillow is so you always have part of me to snuggle with, even though I'm not there with you all the time.  Know that I am always thinking of you and you are always with me.

Love you.  K)

4  Scarf crazy! in Knitting: Completed Projects by SlytherinPrefect on: December 10, 2006 10:21:14 PM
I've made 3 scarves for Christmas so far...two for brothers and one for a friend...

I just learned how to knit this spring, but I didn't really get into it until a few weeks ago...and now, there's no stopping me!  My friend and I are going to start a knitting club at school.  Right now I'm working on another scarf for my mom and some golf club covers for my brother, and there are more projects in planning stage!

Anyway, let me know what you think.

5  Not-the-typical pillowcase dress - IMG heavy-ish in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by SlytherinPrefect on: December 10, 2006 10:15:38 PM
So I've been lurking for what feels like 100 years...and I was browsing through the completed projects board...darn you crafty people making me come out of hiding!  I got so inspired, I finished the pillowcase dress I wasn't happy with months ago.  The pillowcase is an old one my mom used to sleep on when she was a girl.  I loved it and had to do something with it.

I cut off the bottom of an old black t-shirt for the trim on the top.  I put a wedge in the back from some red fabric.  And I sewed a long slip into the inside so it'd be less see-through.  I might put a halter top on it, but I haven't decided for sure yet.  The sash in the middle is just a sheer thing I have from an old prom dress.  I might sew in a permanent black middle stripe.  Let me know what you think!

Oh, and sorry my face isn't in these...I had total bedhead.  Smiley

The bed cuts off the bottom a little, but thank goodness for the timer on my camera...

Here's the front...

The front a little closer...

Here's the back...the top needs a hook-and-eye...

Here's the side view...
