1  dragons & knights on the nine patch baby quilt in Quilting: Completed Projects by emisaurus on: February 05, 2017 01:54:21 PM

catching up on some quilt sharing before all my projects for 2017 begin
and believe me, i've got a list!
here's a little quilt i made for my cousin to give to his old room mate.
when i was given "nerdy" but not anything sci fi, i was able to find this great dragon & knight fabric to base the quilt off of.

green was a favorite color, so it happened to be even more perfect for the little boy on the way.
i feared the red and green looking a little festive, but with the blues & grays it broke it up perfectly Smiley
i knocked this little quilt top out in a day, which was great!

2  nerdy science ribbon star quilt in Quilting: Completed Projects by emisaurus on: January 25, 2016 03:01:35 PM

my mom and i had purchased this fabric forever ago, planning to someday make a quilt for my sister (she's a physics & math major)
well, she went off to school and got engaged so i felt like the quilt HAD to be made before she became a mrs in april.
i made a few of the ribbon star quilt blocks for the first time during a quilt block swap, and thought they would be perfect.
we got 9 different prints altogether from the science fair/chic geek lines of fabric and went to town on creating this quilt that was SUPPOSED to be for a twin sized bed.
well, its HUGE.  but when she gets married and has a bigger bed, it will still be able to be put to good use Smiley

the row across the back was actually supposed to be ANOTHER row on the front.  but i gave it the boot, and love how it turned out.
the backing fabric is all little atoms as well Smiley
thanks for taking a peek!

3  mickey inspired triangle quilt in Quilting: Completed Projects by emisaurus on: January 25, 2016 02:55:23 PM

i made this mickey inspired quilt for my dear friend's mom, who is VERY much a disney fan!
i've loved using the triangle quilt along instructions for 2 previous quilts, and had a great piece of fleece already to use for the back.
i took colors from the back piece and found prints that had one of the color and white on it, or in some cases, i found some that had three.
i'm so thrilled with how it turned out, and she loved it!

thanks for stopping by!

4  lion king paper pieced baby quilt in Quilting: Completed Projects by emisaurus on: October 18, 2015 01:03:13 PM

i completed this quilt last month for a dear friend of mine.
it had always been something i would have liked to do for her, but at the time had never paper pieced in my life.
a year ago, i began paper piecing, and then when i found out she was having a baby, i knew this quilt had to finally happen.
originally, it was going to be done by december, but her husband flew her in (from alaska to california) for a surprise baby shower weekend, so i had a much closer deadline!
i couldn't be happier with how it turned out Smiley

the blocks are all kona solids, and the backing is a fitted sheet i found on ebay to chop down to size.

some of the blocks

i did a black on black binding to tie the front in with the back, and kept the quilting very simple Smiley
i don't know when i'll get the guts up to do another paper pieced quilt such as this one, that's for sure!
though my sister is convinced she now wants a mulan one... oy!
thanks for looking, and there are way more photos and close ups on my blog here: http://toothpasteandorangecat.blogspot.com/2015/10/just-cant-wait-to-be-king-quilt-for.html

5  the 100 pudge cats quilt in Quilting: Completed Projects by emisaurus on: August 16, 2015 12:54:20 PM

last december i did the "catvent quilt along" with oh frasson, and loved the result (seen here)
since then, i had plans to immortalize my own cat elroy in quilt form (i mean, as any crafty cat person should, right?)
i used the 100 block layout for this quilt, and started stashing white on white & black on black prints to use throughout.
here it is in it's entirety!

some of the faces had a small square that was perfect to use for elroy's pink nose, so i used leftovers from my camera quilt and gave the blocks little sparkly pink noses, and the backing is a solid pink to compliment it as well Smiley

when this middle block came together, it was suddenly such a perfect representation of his actual face.
the white on this middle one glows in the dark as well!

i'm stoked about how this quilt turned out,
but i can't say the same about elroy...

6  daffodils and kitty cats in Quilting: Completed Projects by emisaurus on: July 30, 2015 09:05:49 PM

i have a dear friend of mine from middle school who just had her first baby.
she's quite the cat lover, and also loves daffodils (which i learned thanks to her commenting it was her baby's birth flower)
i combined some of oh frasson's cat blocks with a paper pieced daffodil block i stumbled upon and created this little quilt!

i found this perfect piece of fabric on ebay for the backing Smiley
this quilt was the first time i used a walking foot (and used the plastic guide foot) so the quilting ended up a little wonky in places, but i have absolutely fallen in love with how much easier life is with such a foot!
thanks for stopping by Smiley

7  Paper Pieced Tabby Mini Quilt in Quilting: Completed Projects by emisaurus on: July 20, 2015 03:55:13 PM

i participated in my first (and so far only) instagram swap this year, and of course it was kitty themed!
i found this pattern on craftsy and thought it would be a perfect mini quilt to make since i've been doing more and more paper piecing lately.

the block itself is about 12" and i used a stitch in the ditch for quilting it.
all the fabric with the exception of the crosshatch grays & backing came from things my grandma gave me.
here's a photo of the back, which i got on ebay for a steal, and perfectly matches the crosshatching of the gray fabrics!

8  beauty and the beast pillow covers in Quilting: Completed Projects by emisaurus on: April 12, 2015 01:56:15 PM

i recently saw that the latest disney swap round needed a swap angel, so of course i had to jump in!
she had a love for beauty and the beast, and needed some home decor type items for her house.
i had always been eyeballing fandom in stitches' paper pieced patterns, so i finally went for one!
i blew them up over 200% and created some pillow covers.
i stitched in the ditch (mostly) around the basic outlines, and then attached the "envelope" cover part using a pinterest tutorial Smiley

can't wait for another disney project after this one Smiley

9  cardinal & apple place mat & potholder set in Quilting: Completed Projects by emisaurus on: April 07, 2015 07:01:39 PM

i did some paper piecing this past holiday season to create some gifts for my grandma per request of my mom.
i found a cute cardinal pattern that actually had both directions of birds on it which worked wonderfully for the placemats!
the apple was another pattern i found on craftsy to create a pot holder to go with the red accented kitchen
i was quite impressed with how quickly these tiny projects went together compared to a normal quilt Smiley

thanks for taking a look!

10  pink & purple parallelograms in Quilting: Completed Projects by emisaurus on: April 07, 2015 06:44:22 PM

this quilt was another request from my aunt, this time for a baby girl with a "rosey pink" color/bird nursery theme.
i found the backing fabric at joann's and used it as my color basis for the front.
initially the layout was going to be completely different, but once my pieces created this "parallelogram" pattern shape, i decided to go with it!

thanks for stopping by!
