1  Bookmarks in Crochet: Completed Projects by Buns on: March 09, 2009 01:04:12 PM
I made these for my mom for Christmas.  I think they turned out really pretty, it's a great pattern and works up pretty quickly (a little over an hour for me) once you get the hang of the teeny tiny hooks and thread.

2  "I'm afraid so, Brad..." in Stenciling: Completed Projects by Buns on: March 09, 2009 01:00:35 PM
Recently my friend watched Rocky Horror for the first time with me.  Naturally, she totally fell in love with this epic movie, and her favourite line was when Frank-n-Furter crawls into bed with Brad and says, "I'm afraid so, Brad!"

Her birthday was about a week after we watched it and I decided to make her this t-shirt.  Her reaction was awesome and probably one of the most entertaining responses I've ever had to any of my creations!

It looks a little iffy in the up-close pictures, but from a bit farther away it looks pretty sharp.  I had to do the details on his face with a toothpick.

3  Herb poster in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by Buns on: June 18, 2008 11:52:11 PM
I made this herb poster for the Back to Nature swap.  It's sort of patterned after those posters you see in health food stores.  I dyed the paper with black tea which really brought out the fibers in the paper to give it a more "natural" look.  I just used the 8 herbs best suited for apartment growing and did them in ink and coloured pencil.

I wasn't totally happy with it, but it's hard to be totally satisfied with your own work!

Thanks for looking!   Smiley

4  Tissue paper pots in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by Buns on: June 18, 2008 11:48:07 PM
I made these flower pots for a swap.  I just bought 99 cent flower pots from Michaels and then cut little squares out of tissue paper.  I used a waterproof Mod Podge to "paint" the tissue paper squares into place on the pot and then Mod Podged the whole thing for good measure.  It's cool because they came out very smooth looking and the tissue paper overlaps to form different colours.

It was the first time I ever did something like this and it actually turned out pretty well!

Sorry I don't have a better picture.  Thanks for looking!

5  Little journal - 2nd project in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by Buns on: June 18, 2008 11:41:58 PM
I made this little journal for the Back to Nature swap.  It was intended as a gardening journal for my partner's herbs.  The pages are accordion folded brown paper bag from the liquor store.  I glued legal paper to each page and then used scrapbooking paper as endnotes.  The cover is made from the back cardboard of a legal pad and covered in awesome fabric I got from the remnants table.

It was my second book project - went a lot faster than the first!

Thanks for looking!

I got my package from catpants two days ago but was having annoying camera issues so finally I'm posting pics.  Sorry for the wait, catpants!

I absolutely loved everything she sent me, it was a very cozy and sweet package, if that makes any sense.

The whole package:

Handspun yarn!  The first I've ever gotten, it's so soft and such beautiful, warm colours.  I have no clue what I will spare this yarn on.

A gold journal with a leaf stamp on the front that catpants carved herself.  The book closes with a very soft wisp of wool and opens up to big, beautiful, textured pages.  I might use this to record what's going on in the forest near my house!

Slightly blurry picture of something REALLY cool - medicinal salve for cuts and scrapes.  Catpants actually made this from herbs she grew herself!  It smells so clean and earthy, and I have already put it to good use on my poor, blistered summer feet.   Grin

A beautiful, incredibly soft cotton scarf.  Catpants made this for me because I mentioned that my favourite place is the ocean - this would be perfect for a cool, coastal hike!  I wanted to get an action shot but unfortunately the lighting wouldn't cooperate.  I love it though!

Finally, she sent me three zines!  I was so happy to get these because I haven't thought about zines in years, and I forgot how awesome of a medium they can be.  One is about pregnancy/motherhood, another is about first aid herbalism, and the last is medicinal skin care using herbs.  I love them!  So much information crammed into such a small space.  Just awesome.  Oh, and also pictured here is the pretty little notecard catpants included in the package.

We were a great match-up from the beginning, and it has been a real pleasure swapping with catpants!  I absolutely love everything she made for me and had the best time crafting for her.  Thanks again, catpants - you totally rock!

7  Re: The Science IS Art! swap gallery in The Swap Gallery by Buns on: May 15, 2008 10:27:08 AM
So yesterday I got my package from ptarmic wumpus!  Everything in it is amazing and I'm so impressed with the obvious care she took to find out exactly what I'm interested in and the styles I like!

This t-shirt features bioluminescent animals (because I think they're cool), and get this - it glows in the dark!  Of course the bf and I had to test it as soon as I opened the package, so we took it in the bathroom and lo and behold, it does glow!  Awesome!

She made two scarves like this, bright blue and very light.  She painted kudzu vines on them, which is an admittedly beautiful invasive plant (since I've done a lot of research on invasive species).  I absolutely looooooove these, and I am actually pretty well-known in my circle of friends for always wearing interesting scarves.  It fits perfectly in my wardrobe.

And finally, this stunning piece of wall art - it's like a big wooden book that opens up to a shadow box.  The letters on the front say "astronomy" (one of my major interests), with a little sun charm in the middle and a really cool old celestial map.  THEN on the inside, there's a paper telescope, old diagrams of telescopes, and diary excerpts from some of my favourite astronomers!!  I don't even know how she found all of this stuff, but it is just..... amazing.  The back has another diary insert that looks all old and torn around the edges, and then a hook so you can mount it on the wall.  As soon as I move into my new place, this is going up - it's definitely an extremely cool addition to my small collection of art and curiosities.

Oh, and I apologize for the somewhat crappy pictures, they really don't do justice.  My camera is kinda behind the times.  I think a new one is in order!

Ptarmic - you were a fantastic swap partner and really nailed all of my interests!  Your next partner is a lucky craftser.   Cheesy

9  Veggie market bag in Crochet: Completed Projects by Buns on: March 28, 2008 10:38:46 PM
Hey all!  I made this bag for my sister to use up some yarn that I hated.  I had to frog almost the whole thing because I made a mistake, so at the end I was so annoyed I had to do something fun to make up for the stress.  So I made some veggies to dangle from the straps.  I think they're hilarious!

10  Re: Favorite Color Swap - Winter 2008 in The Swap Gallery by Buns on: March 28, 2008 04:41:47 PM
Hooray, finally I am able to post pictures of the amazing blue package slingmomma sent me!  First of all, she made her box our of a cereal box!   Shocked  I just found that super impressive right off the bat and I'm going to remember that one!

Here's the purse she sent me, in the style that I requested.  Sorry for the crappy photo, I tried!  It even has a looong strap that I can fit over my shoulder, which is what I asked for.   Cheesy  I have already received numerous compliments on this baby!

Fabric close-up, it's gorgeous:

The cuuute wallet she sent me (which I also asked for).  Inside:

As you can see I had to put it to use almost immediately.   Grin

Pincushion!!  I have been craving one because I just started sewing!  She asked me for my favourite animals, and jellyfish was the first one.  I love it!!  I had to squeal when I opened it, my boyfriend thought I was losing it.

Matching needle book with jellyfish on the cover.  The little ribbons pop right off the front, and the "pages" are all multi-coloured felt.  Very soft and floppy.  I also didn't have one of those before, so I was very happy to receive it.

Great medium-sized pouch with bright blue lining and little blue ribbon pull.  Slingmomma asked if I had a second favourite colour, and it was green, so she included some of that in the package - that was awesome because it killed me to choose between blue and green.   Grin

Beautiful silky covered notebook.  And inside, a little surprise for the beginner crocheter:

A pattern!

FINALLY, slingmomma sent me some yarn and beads to bulk up my baby stash:

How awesome is that??  She was a FABULOUS partner and I hope she likes everything I made as much as I loved all of this!
