191  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Re: French Onion Soup? on: August 24, 2007 10:08:07 AM
Thanks guys! I don't know what Vegimite & Marmite are/is, but the mushrooms sound like something to try.

I'll have to try the 101 recipe, too, that sounds good.
192  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / French Onion Soup? on: August 22, 2007 10:53:37 AM
I know this is silly, but I used to really like French Onion Soup. I may very well not like it anymore since the whole, "meat is nasty and wrong" thing kicked in, but I'd like to try again.

Do you have recipes that would lend the robust flavor originally from beef broth, without the beef broth? I would just try it with vegetable stock, but I think it'd lose an important component..

193  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Re: Smoothies on: August 22, 2007 10:39:01 AM
The easiest smoothie ever (and the only way my sister will eat fruit) is just this:

1 banana, broken into chucks
1/2 to 1 cup milk (depending on thickness you like)
1 cup yogurt

Mix 'em all.

I usually use any kind of pink yogurt, but plain works just as well with some fresh or frozen strawberries thrown in there. ^^

Edit: Oh, I just thought of another easy one!

1 can pears or peaches
1 cup plain or vanilla yogurt
8 ice cubes
(4 fresh or frozen strawberries)

Good either way, but I think the strawberries add some flavor interest. ^^

Hope I helped!

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies EVA! (My own recipe!)

1 cup shortening (all vegetable, dur. ^^)
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup applesauce or mashed banana
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups flour
1 cup choc chips

Mix the applesauce/banana with the baking powder and let it sit for a bit. It's going to expand to about 2/3 cup. (It's cool. ^^ )

Cream shortening and sugars, mix in the applesauce/banana stuff. Stir in baking soda, salt, and vanilla. Mix in the flour 1/2 cup at a time, then stir in the choc chips.

Drop dough onto a cookie sheet and bake at 350 for 8 or 9 minutes.

These cookies are so good! I make them for my vegan friend, and other people steal them not knowing they're vegan. ^^ They can't tell, and the best part is that you don't need any wonky ingredients.
Hope you like them!

I've been folowing this thread for a few weeks now, and I'm getting really excited!  I would love to have a prom dress of this style (I'm thinking a dark green for the body with black to replace the red). The problem is that I don't know what fabric to use, and I can't afford taffeta. Embarrassed Any ideas?
