1  Cooking Challenge - Celebrating July 4th! - Flag cake in Dessert by RamenQueen on: July 05, 2010 10:30:06 AM
I made a Flag Cake !

I simply used 3 cake mixes
1 duncan heniz red velvet
2 pillsbury french vanilla  ( one i then dyed blue)

I then split the red and the white cakes horizonially and layered two of them on my cake pans like this

Then out of the remaining half layers of red and white cake I cut a circle ( about 5 in in Diam.) and discarded ( aka fed to the kids) the outer rings

Next I tool the full layer of the blue cake and cut and discarded (yummy) a circle of the same size

Then i layered them ( adding frosting as "mortar" between layers)

so you have this
circle of redcircle of white
blue outer ring
RED 1/2 layer
WHITE 1/2 layer

I hope that makes sense and then you get this

Innocent looking! I used a baby bottle nipple, soda caps and a pop top dipped in food coloring to make the bubbles!

INSIDE -surprise

Close up!

I've never made a layered cake before ( ok my SIL helped lol) and I've never entered a contest on here either....

Thanks for looking!

One last pic....look at the size of that slice!

2  Clearanced Placemats to awesome messager bag ( Brown and teal!) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by RamenQueen on: January 06, 2008 09:56:45 PM
I desperately wanted a classy grown up bag for school ( after all I am 25!) SO I made one!!

I got these placemats on clearance after christmas at walmart!! I though they were awesome. They are Corderoy with a satin back ( aka my lining!)]

only 70 cents each ( i Bought 4)

Then I Bought some cordinating fabric for the strap 1/2 yd cost $2.49

and I also grabbed some matching teal buttons for $0.62!!

Here are all my supplies!

So I made a handle....

then I sewed the front and the bottom to a strip of the fourth one ( i originally waws going to do side panels to but got frustrated and gave up!)

sewed up the sides and added the handle and Viola!

many thanks to my Mom who is modeling it for me!!

and close up of the button detail...

3  Worn out( much loved) jeans to Cozy Bollster Pillows + 1st tute in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by RamenQueen on: August 10, 2006 11:08:12 PM
I had these incredible jeans that fit me just right in all the right places. Sadly in the matter of a few weeks holes developed in the belly ( near the zipper) , the belt loops tore off leaving holes and the crouch ripped when i bend over. :-( But there was hope in the form a bollster pillow!

First I cut off the legg just below the pocket ( The pillow will not be perfectlt striaght since my jeans were boot cut)

then on the end I sewed thru some slighty gathers , then stitched striaght across to close the leg,

repeated on other end, then cut a small hole in the seam . Turned inside out and stuffed

Heres the end pre-stuffing

stitched the hole close and Voila!

Here They are ( along with a few other of my pillows ...such a kick i've been on lately)
They're Comfy and can double as a neck or knee pillow too!
