21  HOME SWEET HOME / Pet-Related Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Knitted guinea pig dress / sweater? on: October 24, 2006 09:19:01 PM
There is a pattern that has been posted several times on here, for a knitted dress or sweater for a guinea pig. You might remember it because it is on a site for hairless piggies. The link is: but it hasn't been working for me for a few days now. Can anyone else get to the site? Or has anyone saved this pattern? I would really really like to use the pattern, so if anyone can help me out please post here or PM me. Thanks!
22  Halloween / Halloween Decor and Parties / Painting Pumpkins? on: October 03, 2006 12:02:12 PM
I have pet guinea pigs, so I am at the corner veggie stand on my street fairly often buying stuff for them. Yesterday I noticed they finally had pumpkins there, so I went back today to get a few of them to decorate for halloween. The guy who runs the store is really friendly, and asked me if I would bring back some painted pumpkins. I think he wants to sell them. I have no idea what do do though - I need ideas! Could I use fabric paint? Or maybe acrylic? Should I shellac them or something when they are done? Any ideas are appreciated! The pumpkins I got are really unique looking, so here is a picture:

23  Halloween / Halloween Decor and Parties / Futurama Carved Pumpkin! on: September 21, 2006 01:10:59 PM
Last year my boyfriend and I dressed up as Leela and Fry from Futurama. I knit an armband and made a giant eye out of a surgical mask, and painted it with glow-in-the-dark nail polish, and knit the armband, and BF wore the red jacket and carried a can of Slurm. I'll pos pics of those if I find them. BUT, I did want to share the matching pumpkin that I carved, to go with our Futurama themed halloween.

I just printed out some images I liked, transferred them onto the pumpkin with pin-pricks through the paper (which i taped onto the pumpkin), then used a knife, spoon, and the can-opener thingie on a swiss army knife to carve it out.
24  HOME SWEET HOME / Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects / Guinea Pig Cozies etc. (first post! - img heavy!) on: August 02, 2006 08:46:06 PM
I've had a lot of free time on my hands lately so I've been crafting a lot for my pet guinea pigs lately.
Here are some matching cuddle bags and piggy pillows:

And matching piggy beds (like miniature dog or cat beds):

Those are all made from fabric I scored at thrift shops, except the corduroy, which was from the remnant bin. I'm trying to send them to a guinea pig rescue for the rescued piggies. There is a tutorial for making the beds here: http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/accessories/17507-how-make-cuddle-cup-requires-sewing.html.
It's not my tutorial, but it's how I learned to make them, although I do it slightly differently now.

Here is the pigs cage, that I built out of storage cubes and coroplast (corrugated plastic). It's about 28" by 56" and I have two pigs that live in it. There is a ramp, and a second level that I built, and they live on fleece instead of shavings:

And here is one more piggy bed (complete with piggy model):
