11  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, BEETLEJUICE!! on: March 16, 2006 07:43:20 PM
These pants have been a long time coming, but I finally managed to find stripy black and white fabric, so here they are - my Beetlejuice pants:

The fabric was from a secondhand single duvet cover that I found at a thrift store. I was absolutely stoked to find it - suitable stripy black and white fabric is non-existant in my local fabric stores. The stripes were an absolute bitch to match (they're matched at all 4 seams), so I was lucky that the pattern I was using was a bit big, giving me lots of room to match them.

They also make great pirate pants when rolled up... Arrr!

And they're just in time to wear to my friend's ocean-themed party in a couple of weeks! Yay!

12  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Witch Baby Doll... (very picture heavy) on: December 15, 2005 07:18:54 PM
I made this Witch Baby doll for crafty_dame for the Unconditional Swapper Swap. For those of you who don't know, Witch Baby is a character in the Dangerous Angels Series by Francesca Lia Block (great author, by the way - you should all read her books!).

You can't really tell in the pics, but she is wearing a leather corset that actually laces up at the back. She also has a pair of wings on her back.

Close up of her face:

Here is a picture of her in her underwear (excuse the nudity Wink). She has a pair of thigh-high stripey stockings and lace bloomers.

In her hands she is holding a pair of drumsticks:

And on her feet are her black cowboy boot rollerskates:

Because I had so much fun making her and loved her so much that I didn't want to give her away, I decided that I had to make myself a Witch Baby too. I made my one a baby doll dress instead of a corset:

Here is a picture of them both hanging out together:

If you haven't already been bombarded with too many pics and want to see more, there are heaps in my blog, and some that crafty_dame posted in her blog, which you can access from here.

I'm so glad that crafty_dame inspired me to make a Witch Baby doll, because I had so much fun making her and have already started planning some other dolls I want to make. Now I just need to find the time to make them!

Organizer meets the 4 conditions for swapping and will make sure that every participant meets these conditions: YES

Details of swap:

Craftin' with cephalopods in mind, let your imagination go wild, and make either one large and time-consuming item, or 3 smaller items. A cephalipod case (get it?), a stuffed giant octopus, a skirt with an embroidered squid. I'd personally like to see a knit hat with 8 legs and an ink steam, but that's just me.

Please be aware of another rule that I have added for this swap. Do not send me your information without commenting in this thread. I don't care if you comment with one word or a pirate joke or your favourite recipe, it just makes it easier for me to contact you and check on your details.
If you have already sent your info, you must still reply to this thread before I will approve you.

The five rules are vital if you want to be in this swap. I won't be allowing anyone who doesn't meet these conditions to join the swap.

Please make sure that I have sent you the right person's info (sending 25 different PM's is hard work! - I know I sent one person the wrong person's info, so please double-check with your partner!) - you should have the information of the person stated in the list above. Please also PM them to make sure their address details are correct (you don't want all your hard work to be sent to the wrong address!). Also, feel free to ask your partner any questions and get to know them a little! Smiley

If there are any problems with the info, or you have not recieved it yet, please let me know.

To help prevent flaking, I am going to use the same system stopmoshun and I used for the My Country Doesn't Have That Swap.
Before anyone sends, both partners will have to check in, and let me know where they are with their package. So please don't send until we have heard from your partner. While this doesn't prevent flakers, it prevents being flaked on (not that there will be any flakers in this swap, because I know squid-lovers are all wonderful people! Cheesy)
Please see the list on Page 9 to see if the person you are sending to has checked in...
If you are going to have any problems with making the send out date, PLEASE let me know. I will be happy to extend it if need be.

15  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Poodle Skirt!! on: October 25, 2005 01:42:45 AM
I made this Poodle Skirt for humblestumble for the Let's Get Intimate Swap, and thought I should post because a) I love poodle skirts and b) there are not enough poodle skirts on Craftster.

It is pretty much just a circle skirt with an elastic casing waistband. There are no seams or anything so it wasn't too difficult to make... except for the hem... which took forever to get through, and was just plain annoying (as anyone who has ever tried to hem something curved will know!)

The poodle is felt, the collar and eye are fake pearls and the leash is some shiny cording stuff. They were all hand stitched onto the skirt.

After I made it, I wondered why I had never made myself a poodle skirt before, and was pretty tempted to keep it for myself... So I am going to make myself a couple (and a crinoline) after exams. I'll post more pics when I do.
16  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Everybody was Kung-Fu Fighting! on: October 05, 2005 02:25:53 PM
I made this clock for my fiance for our anniversary. He's used to getting cheesy romantic gifts from me, so I'm sure he will be pleased to recieve something a little more him.

The Kung Fu dude is my fiance in his favourite style oufit, kicking at a wooden dummy. The kicking leg ticks around as the second hand. The first two Chinese characters say "Wing Chun" - the type of Kung-Fu he does, and hopefully, the last two say "Kung Fu", but we can just pretend they do if they don't!
17  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Crocheting pictures into clothing? on: September 27, 2005 06:27:50 PM
I just made up a bunch of charts of pictures that I want to crochet onto clothing (such as on the front of singlets, t-shirts, on the bottom of skirts etc.) but was wondering what would be the best technique to use? I know that filet crochet would work well, but it's quite gappy and I want something a little more solid. So if I did tapestry crochet, and crocheted all in sc's, would the garment end up being really thick and heavy? Is there some other technique I could use, or some other stitch I could use (that ends up being a square) that isn't as bulky and heavy??

It's times like these that I wish I could knit!! Roll Eyes
18  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Create-a-Cell! with bonus infectious viruses!! (Bio-Geek Alert!) on: August 21, 2005 01:07:41 AM
It was my friend's birthday the other week, and even though she told everyone not to get her something, I knew I had to make her something to show her how much I love having her as my Bio-Buddy... so (inspired by the cell pillow posted here of Craftster quite a while ago) I made these "Create-a-Cell" magnets:

Here are all the magnets (minus a lysosome that went walk-a-bouts and a vacuole that I hadn't made yet):

This is what they look like assembled into a cell (with viruses around the outside):

This is the outside of the card which I put all the magnets in:

And the magnets inside of the card, with info on each organelle:

She absolutely loved it, and we ended up getting weird looks and comments about having to be biologists to appreciate things like this from our non-Biology friends, which made it even more great. Hooray for Bio-Geeks!!  Grin

19  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / There's no excuse not to play cards now!! (with Link to Tutorial) on: August 07, 2005 12:53:48 AM
I made these girly playing cards for the Pin-up Girls Swap, and thought I should share because you can pretty much stick any picture you like onto playing cards (provided they are the right size of course!), producing completely unique and personalised presents!

Although they are pretty time consuming to make, it's a relatively easy and pretty inexpensive process. Just cut your pictures to size, stick them onto the card (I used double-sided sticky tape, but glue would probably work just as well) then cover the card with duraseal (clear sticky-backed book covering). Because you've stuck on about 2 extra layers, the cards will probably no longer fit in their box, so you can make one to match the cards.

Pictures of the box and some cards:

20  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Pin-up Girls Coasters... (with easy Tutorial link!) on: August 07, 2005 12:38:32 AM
I made these coasters for the Pin-up Girls Swap, and absolutely love them because a) they were really easy to make and b) you can pretty much use any picture you want (including photos - which would make an awesome gift!!)

These are the coasters I made for the swap:

These are the coasters I made for myself (and ended up giving to my mum):

This is the cover of the box for the first set of coasters (hooray for silly puns!!):

To make your own set of coasters, grab a set of existing coasters - I used cork-backed ones, some clear duraseal (clear sticky-backed book-covering), double-sided sticky tape and some pictures.

Cover the pictures with duraseal, cover the backs with double-sided sticky tape, cut the pictures out the same shape as the coasters, then stick them on the coasters.

To clean the coasters - wipe them with a damp cloth. DO NOT immerse them in water or they will probably fall apart, and do not put anything really hot on them or the duraseal might melt.

Happy crafting!!
