Finally found my pair of flip flops, that I've been holding for a crochet project, today so going to try to tackle this weekend.  Anyway, a couple of weeks ago we went to an event where my mom was sporting the water bottle holder I made for her with a shoulder strap.  When we happened to run into our instructor she made a suggestion because of the cotton stretching over time and I am thinking that it would be the same story with shoes?  She suggested getting some of the transparent thread (Joann's carries one by Coats and Clark) and running it through one side of the shoulder strap and tying it off.  She said it will prevent the stretching and you never see the thread.  It's hard to see the thread even when you're sewing it in!

This is a really good idea!

I would love to share!

disassemble flip flops
D hook
cotton thread

heel: where the two holes towards the heel are insert size D crochet hook CAREFULLY at 45 degree angle rom base of shoe coming up through the sole, chain 1, sc around back of heel pretty close together (I put 21 stitches around my heel) adjust for bigger/smaller feet (I'm an honest size 10)
row 2: ch 1, sk 1, sc to end
row 3-10: repeat tow 2 (you will effectively be tapering the heel)
row 11: do not break yarn, ch 71, sc in 2nd chain from hook all the way back down and across the sc from the last row, ch 71, sc in 2nd ch for hook all he way back to the heel, fasten off and weave in ends. repeat for other shoe

toe:
With size D hook, Ch 19, Sc in 2nd and across, Ch 1, turn
Row 2: Sc in first, *Ch 3, sk 3, Sc in next, repeat from * across, Sc in last, Ch 1, turn
Row 3: Sc across (working 3 Sc in each Ch 3 space), Ch 1, turn
Row 4: Sc in next 3 sts, *Ch 3, sk 3, Sc in next, repeat from * across, Sc in last 3, Ch 1, turn
Row 5:Sc across (working 3 Sc in each Ch 3 space), Ch 1, turn
Rows 6-9: Repeat Rows 2-5

Position over toe atea and decide where to attach it for maximum comfort. just like you did for the heel, insert your hook at a 45 degree angle, ch 1 and place 5 sc through sole approximately the same width as the toe piece.  repeat on the other side of the flip flop. hip stitch the toe piece to the single crochets and voila! new flippy floppies!

Super easy yet striking pattern, looks way more complicated than it is...

Awesome upgrade. These are way cuter (and I'm sure more comfortable) than the original flip flops.
Absolutely!  I hate the thong between my toes!

those are fantastic!  I would arrange them like footprints and like you said, throw an unaltered flip flop in there too

great job!
