I'm pretty new to sewing, so please forgive this question if it sounds stupid.  What is the difference in making a tote bag this way https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=52143.0 and this way https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=29876.0.  The first takes five pieces to construct the body of the tote (not including the lining).  The second looks like one piece of fabric folded at the bottom and the sides sewn up.  (I guess the tote could be made similar to the Jordy where there are two pieces for each side of the bag too.)  Is there a difference in the functionality of the tote or is it just the shape and amount of time it takes to sew?
