i just wanted to add - this is the first tote i've ever made, my first iron on, and my first try at applique.  so i am totally over the moon with how it's turned out, it's the very first time i've ever made anything that ended up looking exactly as it did in my imagination.   Grin

in case anyone wanted to use it, here's the gif for the original trio of kodama:

and here's a glimpse of a whole page full of them Grin

eta: if you do use the gif for anything, id love to see what you make with it..

i made the lining myself  Grin  i love patterned linings, i think they make ordinary items quite special..  i drew the kodama in photoshop and then printed out a pageful onto iron-on transfer paper, then cut them up and arranged them on the plain lining.  the recipient won't be able to iron the lining but i don't think it's a big deal, and the teflon coated outer fabric is pretty much creaseproof.

if you like i can send you the gif file i drew for a single trio of kodama, i cut and pasted this into word to print out a page full but im sure there are better ways of doing it, i just didnt know how.

I wanted to join the Miyazaki swap but got in too late Sad

But I decided to make something anyway which I'm sending as a gift to a friend.  I'm really pleased with how this turned out  Grin

So, here's a picture of my Kodama Tote:

and the lining:

I put more pictures on my blog if you want to see the in-progress shots. Smiley

i've scoured my whole area and do regular trips.  my local oxfam is hugely expensive.  i went in t'other day and asked if they had any yarn or fabrics, and the woman there said yes they'd had in a couple of bagfulls but she was planning on making a window with it on saturday, so to come back then!  so infuriating, because im absolutely certain that whatever time i get there i'll either be too early or too late, you know? i was polite but i was secretly a bit pissed off, i must admit.  because, why not let me have a look and, you know, buy some of it??  it was just weird.

i never find sewing patterns, i ask and ask though.  theres a couple of the charity shops round here where theyve taken me into their basements and back rooms to look at yarn, and the places are totally crammed with stuff.  my local cancer research shop is quite small but their basement is easily twice the size of the shopfloor and crammed.  but they have some stuff out on the shelves and rails for weeks and weeks, because it is overpriced.  they see a label like "laura ashley" and it'll go out for at least 6, usually more.  i dont really understand it because if they put it out for half that price, the stuff would sell and they would clear more stock and ultimately make more money, its pretty basic really.  and for goodness sake, sending a customer away because you want to make a pretty window?  whats that about?

another shop sent me away recently because i only had my card on me (no cash) and the volunteer didnt know how to work the machine yet.  so that was 6 i didnt get to spend and they didnt get to recieve.  Roll Eyes  she said to come back tomorrow but i dont have the time to go back and forth like that, its so infuriating!!!

i dont have a local hobbycraft and the only place locally i've found felt it's been in very small squares and expensive for the size.  does anyone know any online shops i can buy felt from?  Huh  i really like the patterned stuff hobbycraft do but they dont take orders online..  i also want some plain colours to make a mobile for my friend who is due to have a baby very very soon!
