1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Wire-bead baskets on: February 28, 2007 09:43:11 AM
I have a free pattern on my blog for wire knit mini votive "chaquetas" - http://indigomuse.blogspot.com You can adjust the number of cast on sts and knit rows to make it bigger or smaller. Good luck with your project!

Thank you so much for the link! Those are great!
2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Re: I think I wanna sew my own wedding gown... eek! on: February 07, 2007 10:59:49 AM
I don't know much about sewing, but I do know a lot about fabric and texture and I really recommend you go with a natural fiber. But, I'm pickier about the fabric of my gown than the design! (Afterall Im a fiber arts major!)
I would suggest you go to Jo Annes and check their selection out, but I don't think they are going to have anything worthy of wedding gown material.
Have you thought about hemp? or possibly a cotton blend? Is any type of silk out of the question? What about lame?
Check out simpledress.com I think they have a cotton dress you can at least look at. And they give free swatches, so you could always order a few to get an idea.
I would also recommed you  go to a big city fabric store. Im not sure about central Virginia, but you may have to travel to check out some nicer places.
I wish you all the luck in the world! What an awesome task to undertake!

WOW! Very awesome! I have to ask, where did you get yours and your bridesmaid dresses? I love the bouquets, I've never seen anything like that before. My invites look similiar to yours, I got the paper at twistedlimbpaper.com!

Thanks for sharing your photos. Everything looked very cool, and you looked great!

Chloe-Hippy-What a great wedding! I'm all about small, outdoor weddings with lots of hand made stuff. I can't tell if yours was small though, but it still looks like it was fun. I love the picture of the boy sneaking cake. I REALLY like your bouquet, I'm very impressed! Everyone looks really great, what an awesome mom you have!!!
Thanks for sharing your pics!

I really want to knit wire beaded baskets to use as candle holders, similiar to the one in the following link. But, I want to add beads and make it taller to use as a centerpiece at my wedding in September.

http://www.23hq.com/everyfiber/photo/495285

Is that safe? The beads are glass, Im slightly afraid the metal will get too hot.

Anyone have any patterns for something similiar? I have one from an old knitting magazine, but I'm going to have to modify it because I'm not too keen on it.   Wink

I just had to chime in about how much I LOVE this thread.... beautiful, beautiful things here.  I just got engaged last week (!!) and can't wait to start planning!

Like many of you, we will have a very limited budget and will be paying for just about everything ourselves.  We're thinking of this beautiful park by the lake for next springtime (May of '08), so I should have plenty of time to be crafty!  We'd like to get married sooner, but I have my heart set on an outdoor wedding, and being in Vermont that doesn't leave us much wiggle room for time of year!   Smiley

Thank you all for sharing your weddings and fabulous ideas!

ETA:  Ok nevermind the springtime thing... its was tooo far!!  September 22, 2007!  Still 8 months to plan... should be just plenty of time.

WOW! Thats the same day I'm getting married! I can't wait to see what you're planning. We are doing an outdoor wedding, pretty informal, comfy and fun! I vow to start my craft list on February 1st. But I know once I do, I'll have no more spare time for awhile....oh well....its so worth it!
Congrats to you!
