2  Gypsy Wagon Button Hoarder Altoid Tin Diorama in Completed Projects by crazyalien8 on: March 28, 2012 08:54:25 PM

Thought it might be time to post this, since I had the afternoon off. This tin was made for the Wicked Vices Altered Tin Swap for Miss Knickertwist. Her vices her packrat hoarding , swearing, boozing, procrastination and uh. Something else that I completely forgot about but should know. Oops.  Cheesy

Went peeking through Knicker's pinterest and found pictures of gorgeous gypsy wagons, and so the journey started!
I cut out a window with my dremel (one of the hardest things EVER!) and constructed a roof, wagon wheel and some wee stairs out of thick scrapbook paper and cereal boxes.
All the major components were covered with a homemade paper clay to give it a cohesive look.

BUTTONS FOR EVERYONE! I attached a matchbox that was stuffed with buttons. Made a small button window garden, and stack some on the roof. I focused the most on the pat rack vice and just overstuffed the tin with buttons. B

As always, some hidden bits that you would only find if you went looking.  Cheesy

And finally a close up if the insides of the tin. I made the little table out of half of a matchbox - the legs are matches that I burned down to the right length. Little wine bottles made out of beds and bits are on the table - along with a tiny curse word.

Comments, critiques and questions are welcome!  Grin

Sorta been MIA from this thread - but I wanted to get Miss Knickertwists tin up~ She sent my this little lovely secret keeper tin. My pictures are a little fuzzy, but I know knicker posted her tin in it's own thread with wonderful pictures!  Cheesy

My favorite bits are the wee house! And there's a little bundle of text from a book with a pen nib in one of the tiny spaces that is just adorable.

I <3 it! Thanks so much knicker, you were a great partner~  Cheesy

4  Cat Series, 2011 in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by crazyalien8 on: January 29, 2012 08:44:00 PM

These drawings were made for my final project in a Drawing II class. Found some beautiful images from Fuck Yeah Hairless Cats tumblr blog and then added some extra elements to them with Photoshop. I used watercolor pencils first, then watercolors to dissolve the pencil and finally regular colored pencils on top of everything.

We were supposed to develop a theme within a series of images. I decided to go with the idea of protection of the weird inside of us all. That it's a beautiful fragile strangeness that needs caring to thrive.

SOYES. Questions/comments/mudslinging, all are welcome!  Cheesy

5  Altered Altoid Tin [Pic Heavy] :3 in Completed Projects by crazyalien8 on: December 21, 2011 10:00:50 PM
Okey dokey. I had some extra time before Christmas and popped out an altered altoid tin diorama for my boyfriend. He's been really awesome to me this year, so it was time to just make something special for him.

It's tiny, but full. For size reference, there's a soda pop tab right next to the monster's thigh.

The monster is carrying a spork, which is a utensil he loves - and he uses the name in most of his online personas. The sign in the background is of Magic the Gathering - a huge hobby and personal love that he's had for years. The metal bit holding it up is from a special dinner we had together with his mom. It was stuck in the steak he was eating to tell him out it was cooked (medium rare). Apparently, my memory is horrible and it was holding the bacon wrapped around the steak medallion in place. I'm totally weird, and stole it for art uses later.

The necklace on the monster represents a silver pendant that he gave me six years ago this New Year's. It was a necklace his father gave him when he was younger. I wear the necklace everyday, and it's for him to be with me every time we're apart. Which is most of the time, because we've been in a cross country long distance relationship the entire time we've known each other.

You can barely tell is an altoid tin! It's supposed to be shaped like a turtle shell. Later in the post, there's some pictures showing the backside.

Mixed media frenzy ahead! I attached the base to the tin and some preshaped aluminum foil to the back of the tin with a hot glue gun. Then, a layer of paper clay was added to covered all the crevices from the foil. After, I covered the entire thing with strips of paper dipped in a glue mixture so it would be all the same texture. And finally, it was painted with acrylic paint.

Here's a detailed image of the wee books I made from cardboard and scrapbook paper. Their titles left to right:  I. Montoya, Code 4 Apes, #000000, Killer Dice. All of them are references to shirts from his thinkgeek wishlist. They are: Code Monkey, The Dice Are Trying to Kill Me, #000000 (in black on a black shirt) and Hello My Name is Inigo Montoya - in one of those hello my name is stickers. I couldn't buy them for him, so I used them as inspiration.

The back of the tin! Not a lot going on here, just a tag and a some extra decorative buttons. The shell is smooth, I couldn't figure out a good way to add the hexagon shell patterned. One day, turtle! Your secrets will be mine to use for aaaarts.

Here's a the altered tin next to some sketches. Though it would be cute to have them side by side. The completed object always looks so cool hanging out near the initial 2D idea. You can also see some design ideas that didn't make it in the final cut - like the spork tiki crown. It turned into a normal crown in the end. Maybe an idea for the future!

He loves turtles and I love frogs passionately, and they represent the two of us. The turtle was a wee silver pendant and the frog a plastic whimsy I received in a swap.

And this one holds a semi good picture of the dice the monster is holding. He's a RPGer and there were super appropriate to include in the tin. The heart on top is just me being silly sweet.

A small detailed shot of the base - it was too plain, so beads and things were attached to make the piece more interesting.

A close up of the tag. Instead of signing like an art piece, I decided to make it more personalized for him.

These last two images are some WIPs. This one includes some more brainstorm sketches and the wire/foil armature for the monster.

This last picture is a WIP of the monster hanging out on my keyboard. These were taken for my tumblr, but I thought they would be a good addition here.

Hope that wasn't too much reading! And I appreciate it if you made it through everything. I can't wait until Christmas now! Questions/comments/mudslinging, all are welcome!   Cheesy

7  Tiny Book - Lots themes/lots of pictures! in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by crazyalien8 on: October 04, 2011 05:11:41 AM
Quick post about a tiny book! It was made for the one tiny book swap (which has an amazing gallery!) Everything was inspired by my partner's wist. This was my first time mixing bits of scrapbooking stuff together with some of my drawings - I think it turned out pretty good!

The pictures aren't as awesome as I would like, but it was late and crafty sleep deprived mind didn't want to pull out the mini photo studio. Miss Audio posted some clearer pictures in OTB gallery thread if you're like to see a truer color and a bit more detail.  Cheesy

Received my tiny book from Audio more than a few days ago! It's awesome! Love the colors and all the tid bits stuck to the pages. She did parts of organ systems for me.  Cheesy

The shape is really cool, and the shorter pages are just too cute. Such a lovely tiny book! Thanks, Audio.  Cheesy

9  Re: Alphabet inchies Round 2 - gallery in The Swap Gallery by crazyalien8 on: September 27, 2011 09:15:37 PM
Pogo: Yep! All my inchies are hand drawn and then cut out. I actually broke my precision cutter on the extras - had to tape it to a piece of wood to finish all the inchies!

Finally posting all the inchies. My group members were absolutely fantastic - with the inchies they sent and their patience with me sending late and being super flighty in general this swap. Really, you guys were great. THANK YOU SO MUCH.  Cheesy

I will post all of your lovely extras soon, because I'm just a complete space cadet at the moment.  Roll Eyes

ALSO, there's one more letter in the mail for you guys, if you had extras. You're not done yet!
