11  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Hexagon Flower Quilted Pillow! on: September 27, 2007 06:50:38 PM
My good friend (who frequents the knitting/crochet board of this site, hee heee..) deserves a present. My mother in law is teaching me to make my own hexagon quilt using the English paper piecing method, and we came up with the idea to make my friend a pillow out of one of them.

This is what we came up with! The sides of the pillow look wonkier than they actually are...  Cheesy
(it was also my very first attempt at appliqu!)

I tried to take a picture of the quilting detail, but forgot to turn on the macro function, so I failed and it turned out blurry. Oh well! What do you think?
12  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Discussion and Questions / My very own dye shop?! on: September 24, 2007 03:17:31 PM
I've just been given permission to turn my in-laws laundry room into my very own yarn dye shop (and I'm probably going to throw a spinning wheel in there somewhere, too!)

Does anyone have any tips on what to put in there, and what to avoid? In addition to the washer and dryer, it has a big white plastic sink basin, which I'm thinking of switching out for a metal one. Necessary?

Also, because this is probably going to be dying on a grand scale, do you think I should panel the wall behind the sink with something? If I tiled it, I'd be worried about the grout changing colors on me :/

I get the whole room to do with what I will, what do you think would be practical to throw in there?

13  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / My kitschy, retro kitchen! on: September 20, 2007 08:31:37 PM

I just moved to a small town, and apparently where I've moved to is notorious for how slowly people receive things - be it in the mail or from a shop..

My mother-in-law ordered some counter tops a good month ago, and was told they'd be here in two weeks. WELL. She decided to take matters into he own hands, buy a piece of plywood and some tiles and go to it!

This is what she came up with, complete with peachy orange walls. I was so proud of her, neither of us have ever attempted anything like it. I love it, and went on to contribute my little artifacts to it! I thought the cork board over the sink really sets it off.

I still think it needs something.. Any ideas?
14  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / What should I do with this? on: June 30, 2007 04:54:54 PM
So, I scored this fairy large spool of what looks like plain, heavy worsted brown wool for $1.99 at Value Village (Savers, for the yanks  Cheesy). It's kind of scratchy, and I'm not sure it's enough for a sweater (despite the fact it's wound quite tightly).

What should I do with it? I can't felt anything, because I don't have a washer of my own...

(PS: Mods, if this is the wrong place for this thread, I'm sorry Sad)
15  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Suggest New Boards and New Features / Widgets? on: June 22, 2007 07:08:14 PM
Hi there, I have a suggestion for a new feature!

Most of us craftsters have blogs and websites and such, and I think it would be a great idea to have a "widget" or "badge" of some sort, something that identifies us as craftsters, and that links to our profiles and posts.

It would be a great way to spread word about this forum around, with a personal touch!

What do you think?
16  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Plying singles from a drop spindle? on: June 11, 2007 09:23:47 PM
I went to Victoria BC's Fibre Fest yesterday and it was AMAZING.
A lady there taught me to use a drop-spindle (and here I was a knitter/crocheter, thinking I wasn't going to learn anything new!). I bought 75g of Alpaca roving (for $3!!) and I've started spinning just a little baby single.

After that's finished, how would I go about plying the whole thing?

Thanks, you guys are just lovely!
17  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / I'm totally at a loss. on: December 26, 2006 11:56:35 PM
I'm desperately trying to find a transformers color chart. My boyfriend is wanting a new hat so badly, and the knitpro chart generator thing makes it all too big.

I remember seeing a thread in the completed projects board of someone who made a hat with one, not long ago, but I just went searching and sifted through 20 pages or more and didn't find anything.

Can anyone help?
18  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Pattern Hunting! on: October 11, 2006 12:25:04 AM
I'm looking for a pattern for a knitted hooded vest (buttoned or zipped).. I've looked EVERYWHERE. I'm wondering if anyone has seen anything like it, or has any tips on modifying existing patterns they've come across online.

19  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Unraveling? on: June 19, 2006 03:03:09 PM
So I went to Value Village and bought a second-hand man's cotton sweater. It's variegated white with black..

Any tips on how to unravel it in as close to one strand as possible?
