521  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Re:Glass Marble Magnets on: December 29, 2003 01:21:38 AM
I've done a *ton* of marble magnets (which I call "Bubble Magnets"...they look like bubbles to me!).

Recently, I've found some large, clear pebbles at Dollar Tree stores for $1 a bag.  They have a very slight irredescence to them, but not enough to keep the image underneath from being seen.  I've also used Aileene's Glass & Bead glue and have had no problems with it.

I'll try to get a pic of my remaining magnets taken (most were Xmas gifts) and film developed to post here sometime.

I got my microbeadx at Hobby Lobby for only $1!! I finally made one of these and it turned out awesome!! Thanks!

Got my beads for the same price, and am preparing to hit the crafts store for magnetic sheets tomorrow!  Fun fun!

Those tags are great!  I've done a cross-stitch tag before, and since I don't travel much, it hangs off the strap of my purse most of the time.  (Although, it only has my first name on it.)

I'm going to have to give the magazine ones a whirl now!  Think I'm gathering way too many ideas from this site!  Wink

Oooh!  A good reason for me to buy men's socks, at last!  Grin

I work a a very large retail chain and we had button makers in stock for christmas this year.  They were in the toys, and only $20, so I don't know what kind of quality they were.  (Tho, you could buy a kit of Strawberry Shortcake image for them for $4--which I got to make marble magnets with).

If it helps, none have been returned broken as of yet.

And I'm going to keep my eye out for a nice button maker...though, I don't think I can swing $300 for one at the moment.

Hmm.. I'm having a hard time visualizing that. You glue the eyeshadow to the cd cases?

No...you hot glue the little metal trays that the eyeshadow is in...in the CD cases.  Which is why she mentioned magnets at first. Smiley

I'm fairly new to the site...and to heavy duty crafting.  Recently I got an awesome new printer and can print images to decopauge with.  Question is, is there an adhesive that won't smear the ink?  Or would this be more of a "try as you go" approach?

I'm going to make one for myself! Then it will be ready to go wherever I go! ^_^

I found hinged metal boxes at work (Wal-Mart) for $1 each.  They have holiday themes on the outside and can hold about 12 or 15 magnets.  Since that is more magnets than I am planning on giving away to each person, I'm using 1/2 of the space for magnets (think 6) and the other half I'm sticking a small styrofoam piece in and giving 6 marble pushpins as well.  Works great.

Heh.   My dad noticed all of the freebie magnets were missing off the fridge.....but when I showed him what I did to them (with a free Hulk comic work was giving out as promos) he liked it.  I knew a comic collector would. =P

Thanks for the great idea!  You can bet I'll be snagging as many free magnets from work as possible in the future!  ^_^
