41  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Stitchalongs / Re: Big Project Stitch A-long 2012 on: February 17, 2012 09:21:57 AM
First progress shot of my Blue Willow piece.   I started on Wednesday morning and this is after about 3 hours of stitching over the past couple of days.  I feel like I'm moving slower than usual, maybe I am.   This thing has TONS of quarter stitches and the chart gets hard to see at times. lol.

Ok.   I'm game for this.   This here is the next project that I have decided to work on.  It looks kind of like a "blue willow" pattern.  I'm going to be stitching it on 28 ct. white Monaco, over two threads.   The final piece measures about 11x11.  I have never worked on something like this before...think the highest count I have ever stitched on was 22 ct. aida.  Plus, this has quite a few specialty stitches I have never even heard of!  I'll post pics of progress...but for now all I have is a photo of the final product.  It is in the March issue of Cross Stitch and Needlework magazine.

Sorry for the glare.  Glossy magazine pages do that.  Tongue

I got my package from bec99 ALL the way from Australia!

First we have this sweet little box.   She painted it a pale yellow and adhered ribbons, buttons, and rinestones to the sides of it!   Sadly the trip around the world shook some of the buttons loose.   Tongue

The box was filled with loads of goodies!  See!

Here are the goodies outside of the box.   We have fabric embellishments, crochet flowers, fabric patches, and butterfly patches.

Here are her handmade jewelry goodies!   Lace earrings, cross earrings, a key and lock earring pair, and last but not least an altered key that I think she got from my pinterest.  The key is totally decked out in rinestones and strung on a necklace.   Oh, and a pair of flower bobby pins!

And, last but certainly not least, a hoop!   Its a cross stitched cage with lavender birdies!   I think I love this the most, its so awesome!  Its also the first hoop I have received.

Thanks for an awesome package, bec99!   Can't wait for you to get yours!

I also haven't ever really taken in any Portlandia, but I'd be up for a birdie swap.

Is it bad that I'm fairly certain I know what HistoricalNeedle's mystery project is?

I don't think it's bad - I have a pretty good idea and I'm waiting to see if I'm anywhere close  Smiley

48  CLOTHING / Clothing for Curvaceous Craftsters: Discussion and Questions / Re: Plus Swimming Suit Problems- Help! on: February 12, 2012 11:21:14 AM
I had never thought of that.   It is a consideration.   Thanks.   As long as its a swimsuit designed for a woman, I honestly don't mind.  Shirt and shorts just feels so mannish and considering I have been dealing with tons of hormonal issues most of my life, I want all the girlish I can get.
49  CLOTHING / Clothing for Curvaceous Craftsters: Discussion and Questions / Plus Swimming Suit Problems- Help! on: February 11, 2012 09:43:31 PM
So, even though its still winter here the stores are pulling out the swimsuits already and I need one this year.  I haven't bought a suit in about 10 years or so and I now remember why.  Basically, I am a big girl with a pretty small bust.  My size is around 26/28, but my bust is only a B cup (on a good day).  I've noticed to get swimwear in my size, the cups seem to START at a C size which looks crazy bad on me.  Last week I actually bought a suit which fit pretty well, except for the cups.  There was literally nothing in them, I could push them down flat to my chest.  Its totally embaressing.   Embarrassed  Needless to say, I returned the suit.  It was a 2pc, halter style tank top with all this ruching (sp?) that really did seem to slim my belly area a lot.

So, I guess, my question is, does anyone here know of any options for me?  Is there anyway I  could alter a suit?  I don't have a ton of sewing experience, but I would be willing to learn.  It really seems like my bust needs underwires to keep everything where it should be, but I know suits don't typically have those.  Anyone have any tips?   I really don't want to spend another summer avoiding swimming (I love it so much) or going the oversized tee and mens shorts route (I did that at a lake last summer).
