1  Re: Mystery Critter Swap GALLERY (send by Oct. 4th) in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by -zoma- on: October 11, 2011 02:01:03 PM
No more fretting hoboe! it arrived minutes ago!

Here's Mr. NomNom. Hoboe said I was welcome to change the name, but the kids like it just fine!

Wait, here comes a surprise!

(red eyes due to crying fit, that ended suddenly when the postman stopped at the end of the driveway. Nothing like a little mail to brighten a day huh?)

Now the question is, has he eaten the bird? or is it his birdy friend that the keeps safe inside?

This is my 4yo getting artsy with the photos. Smiley

Hoboe also sent this awesome pencil roll - lovely soft brown leather on the outside - so nice in the hand.

and inside: filled with pencils - flowers and bees (I'm a gardener)

And hoboe was even so thoughtful to send me a pencil sharpener and erasers!
Not forgetting the snacks - there were fun sized Snickers and Almond Joys - I've never had Almond Joy before, so I'm hiding that one from the kids. Smiley

Thanks hoboe for an awesome package!

btw- this swap has spawned a love of critters for my kids - they've each made one so far, and they're both eagerly waiting till I say they can make another.

3  Re: One Tiny Book Rd 2 GALLERY in The Swap Gallery by -zoma- on: September 29, 2011 05:48:35 PM
Here is my wonderful book from MunLtStmpr:

The cover is wonderfully textured - both the paper, and the elements under the paper.

the book is filled with quotes - here are a few of my favourites:

"Work is love made visible. And if you cannot work with love but only with distaste, it is better that you should leave your work and sit at the gate of the temple and take alms of those who work with joy." Kahil Gibram

"We write to taste life twice." Anais Nin
This one is on ribbon.

Fanned out: 7 signatures of 3 folios each. Lots of quotes for me to enjoy.

What a beautiful book, thanks again MunLtStmpr. I am going to treasure this!

This is what I'm doing to brainstorm, I started last night. It's a lot of fun. Just print, and sketch.

5  Re: Head Start Art Journal Round 2 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by -zoma- on: September 10, 2011 06:12:05 AM
Prepare to be jealous. I received my journal from Smmarrt yesterday!

On overall shot: from right to left, journal, Altered Images book, Attracting Birds to your Garden, and album cover.

You can see the button closure on the journal - I really like this.

Awesome leaf resist watercolour spatter title page.

Some of my favourite pages:

I love this idea - plastic windows from envelopes

A prompt page: the pictures are sidewalks - I'm to use them as inspiration.

tissue paper leaves - I can't wait to get my hands on some bleeding tissue to try this myself!

both Smmarrt and I like kraft paper and birds  Smiley

this will serve as a really good reminder for me!

One of the extras - a thrifted book on attracting birds to your backyard. Smmarrt couldn't have known, but I have a growing collection of vintage and antique books on birds. I absolutely LOVE the illustrations in this one, I can't wait to start scanning them to use in my journal (NOT going to cut this one up)

Love the texture on this page: blue paint sprayed over mesh fabric. Gorgeous.

If you remember Smmarrt had a mishap with the first cover, but she sent it anyway for me to use. My other love is gardening - I just wish this was what I look like when I'm in the garden. lol. I'm torn though, whether to use it for a cover for a garden journal/log (on my to do list) or to use it for an altered art project.

I didn't take pictures of the other extras (Smmarrt totally spoiled me): Ghiardelli chocolate (yummmmmmmmm) a Copic multiliner, and a set of inspiration cards. I'm really looking forward to using everything!

So spoiled. And very very happy.
Thanks again Smmarrt!

I just had to share this. DD and I bought a shrinky dinks kit, she made pendants and I made a charm for the journal. I hope it survived the mail. Smiley

Details of swap:

Have you been inspired by the Sketchbook project? Do you keep your own art journal or sketchbook, or have you always wanted to try?
This swap will be for one sketchbook or art journal, and you'll give your partner a head start on the art.

*I highly recommend that everyone makes the journal that they are swapping with their partner. However, if you don't feel confident in your bookbinding skills, please communicate with your partner (and organizer) as they may have a strong preference for the brand of store-bought journal or sketchbook for substitution. (Altered books have also been used, but again, please communicate with your partner)

The Book:
A handmade journal, size to be determined between partners, guidelines follow. The cover may be embellished, or not, but should be sturdy and resilient enough to be carried around in a purse or bag. Binding should be equally as strong - we're aiming for quality here.

The Interior:
Give your partner a head start! I will try to match partners based on strengths & talents so that your partner does something different from what you normally do. So do your thing, and get the journal going... place backgrounds, frames, doodle around the margins. Do a page of collage, a portrait of your cat, or use a page as a coaster for your glass of red wine. The exact amount should be discussed between partners, but I would say, as a guideline, that no more than 50% of the pages should be blank when you send.

The Theme:
Not all of us share the same interests, so please try to gear the journal towards your partner. I will ask you to choose three themes for your partner to pick between, and your partner will interpret your theme how they choose. Some examples might be: nature, joy, blue, travel...

An Extra:
If budget permits, include one of your favourite art journal supplies: your favourite colour of pastel, your go-to pencil, a glue stick, a sheet of stickers, whatever. I myself, am hooked on Pigma Micron 01 pens in dark brown, and would include one with my book.

Book Guidelines:
Paper matters: if you are using good (read expensive) paper, aim for the lower number, if your partner prefers cheap paper, use the higher number. Pay attention to the media your partner uses so that you can make appropriate paper choices.
Size: 9" x 12" - 10-30 pages, 7" x 9" - 20-50 pages, 3" x 5" 50-100 pages
Again: these are guidelines, discuss variances with your partner.

Aim for the highest quality that you can reasonably afford, and put your heart into this. You should be PROUD of what you send, and you will be thrilled at what you receive. We'll call this a 5-point swap, and all five of those points are for the journal.

Please take note: this is not a scrapbook! This is a place for you to write, draw, create and record.

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

Name of swap: Head Start Art Journal Round 2
Craftster username:
Email address:
Your real name:
Mailing address including the country:
Would you be willing to ship to an address outside your own country?
Confirm that are at least 16 years old or, if not, that you have moderator approval(YES/NO)

The more you share, the better this swap will be:
Please indicate if you have any preferences in the following
FORMAT of Journal
Orientation (portrait/landscape)
Binding (spiral/lay flat/?)
Extras (pen holder/envelope for ephemera etc)

What is your Journalling style? Are you mainly a writer? Collage? What media do you use (wet/dry)? Do you keep your journal at home, or does it travel with you wherever you go?

Lastly, please give your partner a jumping off point for themes (three please):

Also, remember to read the Swap Info Guide to find other rules about participating in a swap.

9  Re: Sewists/Yarnies vs Papercraftsters Gallery in The Swap Gallery by -zoma- on: December 08, 2010 09:01:03 AM
SORRY for not posting these earlier. I've been such a scatterbrain the last few weeks. Forgive me.

This is my lovely package from Lellibo:
Headband, cowl, and slippers to help me keep warm this winter.

Sorry no action shots of the headband and cowl - I'm sick and so not going to appear in any photos right now.

Everything is made of cotton and SOOOOO soft. It's a pity to put the slippers on my feet because I want to rub them on my cheeks Smiley

Oh, and lellibo spoiled me rotten by sending me my favourite British chocolate. I'm not going to tell you how much, because then you'll judge me for having finished most of it already. Smiley Thanks again Lellibo!

10  Re: Canadian small envelope swap Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by -zoma- on: October 26, 2010 10:53:56 AM
Sweet! got my envelope today!

slingmomma sent me oodles of goodies!

clockwise from center top:
baggie of paper bits photo corners, vellum quotes, tags etc perfect for my journal.
fabric squares - probably 50ish? 1 1/2" x 1 1/2"  I'm probably going to take this stack as is and make a mini art quilt out of it. I'm really looking forward to it now!
baggie of sparkly bits: gems glitter, sequins, brads and a teeeeny tiiiiny button.
white letter stickers... which I am already playing with.
buttons! so colourful!
baggie of paper scraps
baggie of fabric bits: green lacy trim, pom poms ribbon, and a fabric flower. Going to try to incorporate them into my mini quilt.

and this!

I've wanted to start a wall of hoops - and slingmomma's will be the first. Lovely songbird all in white - but with rainbow stitching! and the back is in my favourite colour. Smiley

thank you so much!
