9  CLOTHING / Shoes: Discussion and Questions / Re: Help! Resizing knee-high boots on: March 04, 2010 11:20:54 PM
Thanks Muria! Now I feel silly because boot covers didn't even occur to me. The gap when I put the boots on is about 1.5-2" so I'll definately try covering up the whole boot, I bet it'll look a lot better than spraypaint too. Smiley

Ok first of all:

here are the boots I'm working with. I'm going to post a better picture later but wanted to get this posted before I forgot about it and ran out of time to make changes.

Back story: I'm going to Megacon March 12th as Batgirl. I have numerous Batgirl costumes as I dress up as her almost as often as I do zombies or Triana Orpheus (which is quite often). I was determined to make this year's Batgirl better than any other and still do it 90% handmade. So far my unitard, gloves, and mask have all failed me. I will not give up though!

I'm going to spray paint these boots yellow but here's the issue. I have very muscular calves. Disproportionally so.
I went up 1.5 sizes in the boots and still they're too tight around the widest part of my leg. So in my frustration, I cut open the back
until they would fit and ended up cutting a little less than halfway down.

I'm tempted to just say screw it and leave the gap there but I thought I'd see if any craftster people had a better idea for what to do with the gap. Should I sew a panel of stretchy fabric in there? Really wide elastic maybe? I don't have the right kind of punch to be able to do laces unfortunately but I'm open to any suggestion cuz I'm really stumped.

Thanks in advance! Smiley
