1  UNITED STATES / Iowa / Re: The Village Knit Wit, Donna's -- closing! on: December 22, 2006 10:29:31 AM
Wow, that is really sad!  Donna's is such a beautiful store, one of the best in Valley Junction. Village Knit Wit has had the best selection of Crystal Palace yarns in town.

Thanks for passing along the info.
2  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Discussion and Questions / Re: how to? beading needles... on: December 22, 2006 08:10:31 AM
I've used the silk threaded cord before.  If I remember correctly, you can unravel your thread off the bobbin, and start your beading at the end.  When you are done, you will still have your thread on a needle.  (I hope this makes sense.)
3  UNITED STATES / Iowa / Re: looking for a ceramic place in the des moines area on: December 20, 2006 08:36:23 AM
Your mom is in luck.  There is a wonderful ceramics place in Altoona, called "the ceramic place" (and is also a french way dry cleaning drop off site.)  I took classes from them for about 5 years.  June runs the studio and is very knowledgable and affordable. They are in the old part of Altoona, the "downtown" district, per se, and are on the main road into town.

FYI, they are generally closed for inventory from Christmas- New Years.

Most of the other places that used to run in DSM have closed over the years.

Yes, it still goes on.  I haven't made it to a meeting at all this Summer, but am hoping to get back into it this Fall.  I think it would be great therapy for my broken arm, which is on the mends (now that I have the ok from my Dr.)

5  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Craftster as Therapy swap on: July 27, 2006 07:30:51 PM
I enjoy anything related to relieving stress.  I'd sign up if this takes off.

It starts at 1 and goes until about 4.  I haven't gone to many meetings this Summer, but there are usually a handful that go.

Sounds like fun, although I won't be able to attend d/t working on Tuesday evenings.

There is a knitting group that meets the 1st & 3rd Sunday of the month at Ritual Cafe, 13th & Locust.
I think there is a knitting group that meets at Grounds for Celebration in Beaverdale, but I'm not sure when.

10  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Re: Art Party Ideas??? on: June 28, 2006 07:28:23 PM
Thanks for all the suggestions.  Time ended up running short to prepare for the party, so I ended up having everyone paint on 9 8 x 10 canvases (to go on an area on my wall) as well as have everyone signature a poster from the festival.  It was a lot of fun and very interesting to watch others paint (and their reaction to the thought of painting.)

Feel free to add more ideas.
