41  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: First FO post! Orangina and a Rusted Root on: November 20, 2006 06:49:31 PM
Thanks everyone!!
The Rusted Root pattern was created by those wonderful ladies at Zephyr Style, you can buy the pattern here:
Rusted Root was super easy, and the lace kept it interesting. I botched the lace in a few places, but I can live with it.

The Orangina pattern is by Stefanie Japel, who is far more punk rock than I'll ever be. You can find it in her pattern shop here:

There's also knitalongs for Rusted Root and Orangina, which are really helpful and full of shiny, shiny pictures to drool over.
Rusted Root:

And guacamolegreetings - I work at the DeYoung Museum. I'm usually running around or in the museum store, so if you ever see me feel free to say hi!
42  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / First FO post! Orangina and a Rusted Root on: November 20, 2006 10:20:57 AM
I think the stress from two jobs and my senior research project on superheroes gave me some kind of magical knitting motivation powers...
Anyway, on with the FOs!
This is Orangina, which was a pretty fast knit. I get so many compliments on it every time I wear it. I used the recommended yarn in Tutti Fruitti (which I swear isn't as pink-looking in real life. Sorry, I just can't work the pink)

And this is Rusted Root, knitted up in the recommended yarn in Gold Dust. The fit's a little awkward, mostly because it's a bit long and I have a really short torso, but I'll live. It'll probably fit better after blocking. I'm also absolutely in love with the color:

It's a bit cold for these to wear outside in San Francisco, but the museum I work at is always freakishly warm so at least I can wear them to work.
Anyway, that's all for now. Thanks for the inspiration everyone!

So I've finished the front and back, and joined them together with the 3 needle bind-off, and now I'm having doubts about the length. It's a little shorter than I'd like. I was actually surprised because I have a freakishly short torso. Decisions, decisions...

I really like yours BeginnerKnitter! That color is great!
I meant to finish my Sizzle while I was at my parent's this week, but I forgot to pack more yarn. *mutter*

Oh my gosh golly...I must have one!!!
Any chances of a pattern? I would totally buy a pattern for this.

Looks great!!! How'd the denim silk work out for you? I'm using the same yarn in charcoal.
47  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: What have I gotten myself into? on: July 31, 2006 05:37:48 PM
I feel your pain! I've never knitted socks before, and I thought I could totally do it until I snapped a size 1 bamboo needle in my hand. My knitting confidence has been shaken for awhile, I think.
48  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: New VK and IK previews on: July 28, 2006 10:04:23 AM
I'll probably buy both. I LOVE the socks in VK, and that Gatsby Girl sweater must be mine!!!

I wouldn't be surprised if the 5th sweater in Gray's Anatomy ended up on You Knit What?? that is truly an awful sweater.

I'm still waiting to start. I found an excellent deal for Berroco Denim Silk on eBay, so I'm just waiting until my yarn gets here. I really wanted something with a pretty sheen, and I just can't stand the idea of knitting in 100% cotton again. I'm finishing up Stefanie Japel's Cold Shoulder at this very moment, and I think my poor hands deserve a break from cotton for a little while.

I am SO in!
I was thinking about using Berrocco Glace in Brussel Sprout (what a great name!) from Elann. The price is great, but I'm worried that the 100% Rayon might be too sweaty. Yick. I'm definitely curious about how this will knit up in the Shine Sport, Knitpicks always has the most delightful yarns.
