31  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Pi vest from Knit.1 Fall '06 (slightly img heavy) on: August 21, 2007 11:57:30 AM
I finished this last weekend, and I am loving it! Sweater vests are totally awesome in a nerdtastic way, and this one's the ultimate in nerdiness:

And yes, I will totally wear this vest with that shirt and those glasses:

This is pre-blocking, so it looks a little lumpy.
I think if I did this again, I'd go the next size down. And there's some things about the pattern that are a little silly, like binding off all the shoulder seams and sewing them together instead of just doing a three-needle bind off.
Oh yeah, and I wouldn't use Wool-Ease. DOWN WITH WOOL-EASE!

Thanks for looking!
32  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Doing it in public: Leave me alone and let me knit! on: August 21, 2007 09:07:24 AM
Has anyone ever heard "So when's the baby due?!" when you're knitting in public? Usually from an obnoxious older man who thinks he's funny? That used to happen to me when I worked at a movie theater and would knit during the downtimes. I thought that it was EXTREMELY rude. Where do these people come from?!
One day I couldn't take it anymore and snapped, "You know, that's a REALLY rude thing to say to a woman who's not pregnant." When he started to mumble "Oh I'm sorry I didn't mean it like that..." I cut him off by saying "I'm just pointing out what's REALLY OBVIOUS." And went back to knitting.

I also get really tired of explaining what I'm working on to people, so I usually reply with something really sarcastic.
"What are you making?"
"A spaceship."
"What are you knitting?"
"A mastadon."
"What are you knitting?"
"My new apartment."

There's also a wonderful pattern in the book Speed Knitting that uses super bulky yarn. It also comes with little pockets at the end that can serve as mittens when your hands are cold.

That totally cleared up my confusion. Thank you!!

Hey everyone! Hopefully someone checks this *gulps*
I started my Swallowtail, and got confused with the chart after I knitted the second Budding Lace chart. The instructions tell you to repeat these six rows 14 times, but I'm confused about the pattern repeats and the no stitch squares. Do I do the pattern repeat twice instead of once like I did the first time I knit these six rows?
Thanks to anyone who can help!

This pattern is so awesome! And I've probably got the yarn to knit this and then some. What IS it about Red Heart? Every now and then I buy some because it's cheap and I'm convinced that I'm going to use it for something and then I never do.
Anyway, I've got some Christmas knitting to do, but I can't wait to see everyone else's progress
38  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Gotta love center-pull skeins... on: December 10, 2006 09:51:19 AM
That happened to me when a skein fell out of my backpack and I had yarn following me down the street!

It's also happened to me a lot at home, but usually I realize it fairly quickly due to the homicidal nature of my cat.
