Ooh, sorry sorry!  My brain was on auto-pilot and I didn't think to check this thread for a while.  I promise that I'll get the peanut butter truffle recipe out tonight and post it tomorrow.

22  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Re:How to Mat a Picture? on: December 10, 2003 03:00:53 PM
I don't know the exact details but my boyfriend does his own matting so here's a generic guess.  All in all, it's still quite an expensive process, even doing it yourself.

  • Select the color(s) you want to mat with and order matting board from a framing store.  My BF has some corner-shaped "kits" that I assume he bought that show all the possible colors that a particular mat manufacturer makes and you use them to come up with the color combo you want.
  • Cut with a mat cutter.    This is an expensive piece of equipment, maybe you can borrow one or fake it with an exacto knife?  I don't know if all mat cutters make that beveled edge though.
  • Insert it all into a picture frame.

Here's a DIY page with some directions.

trashy_chic ,

Since you work at Michael's, can you answer a question for me?  Do they sell Chinese take-out cartons like these at The Container Store?

That microwave fudge sounds super yummy!

I don't know if it's my favorite yet because I haven't tried them, but this is what I'm going to make as a gift this year, cinnamon roasted almonds.

Last year I made three different types of truffles, peanut butter, peppermint and raspberry.  My favorites were the peanut butter ones.  They were super yummy and easier to make because I didn't dip the centers in chocolate but instead rolled them in chopped peanuts.  If anybody's interested, I can get the recipe.
26  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re:Help! I have the polyester motherlode!! on: December 09, 2003 10:41:54 AM
Well, it's not very creative, but my grandma made me a polyester quilt.  It's kitchy and super adorable, looks like it's made out of her old pants.  Smiley  I totally love it.

I've heard that contact solution works like a charm.  Never used it myself though.
28  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re:Help! Any jean DIY ideas? on: December 08, 2003 10:48:09 AM
I'm in the process of making a denim braided rug of light and dark denim.  I originally wanted to make a latch-hook style rug with strips of denim that stuck up everywhere, but could never find the backing until I went to Hobby Lobby last week.  Oh well.

I'm also gonna use the back pockets off one of the pairs of jeans to make some change purses, like this thread.  I'll probably insert a strip of velcro inside to make sure it stays shut.  Those will be a couple of Christmas gifts and I intend to buy lip gloss to go inside.
29  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Re:Fun & Funky Luggage Tags on: December 08, 2003 08:36:28 AM
Very neat!  I had no idea that something like luggage tag laminating sheets existed.  I need luggage tags for a trip in the spring and if I don't get any for Christmas, I'll make one like yours.

Yeah, that's the site!  I had no idea she made tons of other things, I've only seen the toilet seats.
