1  Re: NOW WITH TUTORIAL 3 T's to paris and nicole's noelle mini ruffle tube dress in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by heathurr on: July 27, 2008 12:39:58 PM
I just pulled this out of my "to finish" pile and finished it up.  I'm kind of happy with it, but not really.

It kind of accentuates my love handles in the worst way ever.  I might try it with some leggings, see if that helps any.  Otherwise, I might take off the skirt part and just wear it as a top.

2  pants to skirt to bag recon! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by heathurr on: February 19, 2008 12:45:26 PM
Once upon a time, I thought I'd convert some pants that were too big into a skirt, thinking I had nothing to lose.  They came out fine, but were still too big, so I let them sit around in my closet to waste away.  One day, I was struck with the idea that I wanted to stencil my favorite childhood tree onto something, and I was reminded of the long-forgotten skirt.  I wouldn't want to stencil something I can't wear, I thought.  So, I recycled the skirt yet again into a bag to carry to school.  I made it around August and only just got around to taking pictures.

The tree is supposed to be a type of Japanese maple (one reason I waited so long to post this, Japanese maples have been a trendy craft theme and I didn't want to impose any more on the board!)  The embroidery says "I can't imagine real flowers," from the e.e. cummings poem "in a middle of a room."  The bag's lopsided in this picture because a very large notebook is currently residing inside.

I misjudged the amount of space I needed at the bottom of skirt when I was embroidering it, so the word "flowers" is really on the bottom of the bag. Oh well.  Undecided

A closeup of the tree stencil.  When I ironed the fabric paint, it made the denim around it a little dingy.  Anyone ever have a similar problem with Jaquard?  It seems to be awful every time I use it.  You can't tell in real life at all, though, especially with the sequins obscuring it.  The camera just decided to be unflattering. Tongue

Pencil holding pocket.  I never got around to washing the pen marks off from where I marked to sew.  Again, oh well!

The lining.  I think you can make out a coffee stain.

Action shot!

I should have taken pictures when I first made it, but it's been so full of stuff that I never wanted to empty it.  Sorry it's dingy!  It's gotten plenty of love this semester.  I love it a lot!  There's even a secret pocket in the lining because I didn't sew up the zipper.

Thanks for looking!  Comments appreciated!

3  [obese] stuff for a swap: AMANDA TAGUE STAY AWAY in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by heathurr on: February 04, 2008 10:26:07 AM
I don't even know if she comes here a lot, but Tague, if you're reading this, you're a big poopy face unless you've already received.  Sorry about the picture quality.  My digital camera is at least five years old.

I made this whole series of fabric buttons and decided just to give the ones with couples, the tiger-bear-thing and the duck.  I don't know what she's even going to do with THAT many similar looking buttons, but I hope she loves them because I think they're precious.

More fabric covered buttons.

A button shaped like Illinois and the obligatory smiling fruit.  (In retrospect, I should have taken a better picture of the IL. Shucks.)

Some hair bows and a flower hair clip.  They don't look that weird really.  It's just the hair clip making them lean.

A necklace made from a pretty obsolete mini recorder tape and a heart button.

Finally, the envelope.  It's just two pieces of card stock sewn together:

Thanks for looking!  Comments welcome (duh.)  I'm really excited for her to get it! (:

they're made out of the part of the wheel that's inflated, not the treading.

like this:

so it's a pretty smooth material that you can easily clean.  the smell isn't so strong, either, and you can wash it mostly away.

5  another silly political pinata in Completed Projects by heathurr on: August 13, 2007 10:54:02 PM
I had pictures of the creation process, but i accidentally deleted them from my phone.  The entire pinata is made out of cardboard and streamers (which, fyi, are apparently not vegan.  i didn't know this until after i had purchased them.  Embarrassed)

It's a pun!  Get it? (We live in NC)

The letters are cut out of colored duct tape.

And my darling BF attacking it blindly:

I love making pinatas for "grown-ups."  (even if they don't appreciate them as much as children.)

6  Re: jean scrap headband *updated with flower thing* in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by heathurr on: April 09, 2007 01:45:20 PM
I ended up making a fabric flower right after I posted the last message.  Here's what I came up with:

Inspired by https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=6676.0 but I did mine a little neater (:

sorry for the poor pictures, they were taken for the headband, not my gorgeous face or new hair color.

i so love having yellow hair.  i feel like a parakeet!  i used jerome russell's punky colour bright yellow.

8  jean scrap headband *updated with flower thing* in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by heathurr on: April 05, 2007 08:17:18 PM
i made this headband out of scraps from a jeans-to-skirt recon!  i hate having the whole legs of pants left and nothing to use them for.

i'm not so sure about the buttons, because they mess up the pattern of scrunchy parts that i have going throughout (i don't think you can tell from the pictures, but it just gives the denim a scrunched look so it doesn't lay flat.)  i might replace it with a denim flower but i've never made a really successful cloth flower so we'll see.

comments, etc appreciated!

jezebel, i think we have the same hair color!

if you don't recall, here's what my hair looked like when i dyed it about two weeks ago.

here's what it's faded to now:

which is much better than it's ever lasted before.  i just stopped showering, and when i do i just rinse my hair with vinegar.  thanks for all of the suggestions!

i feel your pain!  but i don't know if Special Effects will fix your promblem.  i dyed my hair with Special Effects wildflower about a week before you did yours, and it's totally gone too.  the *wow purple!* was gone after about a week, and then it was this dull gray purple.  i did the same bleach/let sit for hours/heat set/only wash every other day with a color-safe shampoo, and yeah.  i also have the same problem with terribly oily hair.  maybe that keeps it from sticking?
thank god it's not just me.  i was starting to think i'm just awful at dying.

here's my hair this morning.  five bucks says it's gone in a week.  :/

The layers look kind of stupid in that picture.  My bangs look much better than that.
