21  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Ongoing ATC Swap Discussion on: November 19, 2009 10:19:58 PM
Has anyone heard from spookygrrrly lately? Last I heard she had taken ill. I hope she's feeling better. I also know the weather and blackouts in her area have been terrible. I have a friend who lives in Puyallup and she said it's been awful Sad. I just hope spooky is doing alright and all of our Washington State ATC'ers are safe.
22  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: basic set of needles to have? on: November 19, 2009 12:36:47 PM
I'll be honest and say I don't care for Boye needlecraft tools. I don't like their crochet hooks or knitting needles. I prefer Susan Bates for aluminum needles. I use 40" Addi Turbos for Magic Loop. I've honestly never tried on anything shorter. I wonder if the double circular needle method would be doable using 29" circs?

A good set for general knitting is the Denise interchangeable set. Just bear in mind the cables are too stiff and thick for Magic Loop. If I had to pick one size and type of needle I'd pick size 7US fixed circulars because I find straight needles are a bit unwieldy.
23  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: curling scarf troubles on: November 19, 2009 12:33:35 PM
Blocking is really only effective with natural fibers, particularly animal fibers. If it's wool blocking it will most likely help with the curl, although you want to take care to not stretch the ribbing out of shape when blocking. The only thing I can think of that may have happened would be casting on too tightly. I usually cast-on and bind off with a needle that is two sizes larger than the one I'm using for the rest of the project.
24  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Ongoing ATC Swap November '09 Gallery on: November 18, 2009 07:39:14 PM
I must admit, there is a site I stare at every so often. I have to slap my hand to keep from ordering from them. I discovered the site after watching a Martha Stewart clip on making glitter pumpkins for Halloween. The glitter she used was so gorgeous. A far cry from the chunky Summer camp glitter I'm used to seeing.

And, because I like to enable, here is the website: Art Glitter

I would love to participate in this swap. I just need to see how our finances are post-xmas. Fortunately we've decided to draw names this year, which is much easier on the budget than buying gifts for about fifteen family members.

I'm loving this gallery!

alwaysinmyroom, the glittery parts are actually some shiny, iridescent scrapbook paper I picked up at Michael's when it was on sale a couple of weeks ago. I bought a blueish-purple and yellowish-orange sheet. I cut random triangles and pieced them together. I used a silver gel pen and rhinestone stickers to create the "frame" on the front of the card. I don't mind posting the pic of the one I made for you, raerae. Smiley I'll just make sure to post the mature tag with it Wink

Oh! I have three beautiful cards to share! I received cards from MissDisney, alwaysinmyroom and HappieHina. Here we go!

"Nightmare Before Christmas" from MissDisney. It's the hill Jack and Sally stood on. The moon glows in the dark and the background sparkles!

I got a yummy Lollipop themed ATC from HappieHina today. It's so colorful and I just love it! I had to resist the temptation to lick the card lol.

I had to take two pictures of this awesome Jimi Hendrix ATC from alwaysinmyroom. The theme was artist's choice. She wanted to do an homage to the hippie era I'm so fond of, and what better way to embrace the hippie way than to do a memorial ATC for Jimi Hendrix. It's hand drawn!

Folded up it's the standard ATC size:

But then you open it up...

The back has Hendrix's obituary.

Really, my photography doesn't do any of these cards justice. They're outstanding. Thank you all so much!

And now for the June Palmer ATC I sent to raeraethejetplane. Before scrolling down, please be advised this picture is probably not safe for work. The card does show nudity, but I have to admit I'm kinda proud of it:

28  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: A Strippers Dressing Table on: November 18, 2009 12:04:22 PM
This totally rocks! I'm a huge fan of the color pink and this dressing table is amazing. Great job!
29  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) / KatAutumn's ATCs (Pleasantly Image Plump) on: November 18, 2009 11:59:00 AM
I'm finally starting my own ATC gallery here. I've been makign ATCs since 2006 and I had not made any in quite some time prior to joining the November Ongoing ATC swap. I'd almost forgotten how much fun they are to make. Almost all of my cards are sent out. I think I only have four I've made for myself, which have been placed in my altered journal. I'll update this OP as I create more cards. I actually sent a Raven theme card today to spookygrrrly that I'm eager to post (but won't just yet, because I don't want to spoil the surprise Smiley ) because it turned out just the way I wanted it to.

Without further ado, here are my ATCs. I hope you enjoy. I always welcome comments and critique.

This first one is a Craftster themed ATC I made for audio-astrophysics. It's inspired by one of the Craftster logos with the little cork figure. I used a self-adhesive cork sheet:

The next one was a Posture themed ATC for Prettyinpaisley:

This one was a Christmas themed ATC for MissDisney. I made a slide out insert with a snowglobe. I drew a tree and painted over it with Sparkle Podge to make it look like iridescent "snow" and then covered it with a piece of acetate to look like glass. The snowflakes are eyelets and the picture was cut from a vintage craft magazine:

This was a Gingerbread Man theme card I made for LindaP. I was inspired by the children's story book of the Gingerbread Man:

This picture is shamefully crooked, but it's a Mandalas themed ATC I made for Oyhana. I saved a mandala coloring page from the internet and sized it for an ATC. I then hand colored it using Berol Prismacolor pencils:

This was a Dungeons & Dragons themed card I made for Corduroy Cat. I used packing tape to ghost the image of a frame from the infamous "Dark Dungeons" Jack Chick Gospel tract. I then painted the tape with alcohol inks. I used a spare D&D quick start playing guide to cut out the d20 and other images. The Kobold Zombie came from one of my many D&D cards:

This is one I made for my art journal. I used alcohol inks and a black stamp ink pad for the background. Then I glued a picture from my "Architecture" ATC paper pad:

This one is a Knitting Themed ATC I made for spookygrrrly. I clipped a piece from a knitting pattern I found in one of my magazines. I also clipped a part from a Clover Knit Lite knitting needle ad and a yarn ad. I then knit a tiny swatch out of Noro Kureyon Sock and used 1/18" brads to fasten it to the card:

The following card is NSFW! It is a June Palmer themed ATC I made for raeraethejetplane. June Palmer was a nude model in the 1960s. I found a beautiful B&W photo of her online and used that. I used silver gel pen and rhinestone stickers to create the "frame". I used a thin, shiny, iridescent scrapbook paper and cut out random triangles to make the background. I love this card, so I wanted to include it in my post Smiley

Sparkly vampires, by any chance??  (I have remained intentionally ignorant about the Twilightosphere, but in the course of being on Craftster I at least know about the sparkliness  Cheesy)

You know, Hot Topic carries roll-on body glitter with Edward on the bottle.
