31  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / 1960's mod dress pattern? on: August 20, 2006 07:07:22 PM
Hi there! I need your help! This is a bit long, but please read it! Please!

I'm going to be in a show (in January-ish) called "Leader of the Pack" which is about the life of Ellie Greenwich, a singer/songwritter, and her husband Jeff Berry, a songwritter as well, during the 1960's. It has lots of fun songs like "Chapel Of Love", "Leader of the Pack", "Do Wah Diddy", you get the idea. I'm going to be one of the back-up singers/dancers.

While the show isn't going to open until January, the theater I work at is having a Gala to introduce the new season (which "Leader of the Pack" is in.) This Gala is the 2nd and 3rd weekend in September. While we will be in costumes, it will basically be what-ever we all can throw together. What I want to do is this: make a 60's dress I can wear that I can also dance in AND to show the director what I can do (sewing and design-wise) and *hopefully* get to be the costume designer for the show!

I can sew, follow patterns, and whatnot, but I'm not so good at drafting my own (even easy ones) which is why I would need a pattern.

What I need help on is finding a good pattern or tutorial. Hopefully free or cheap, but I'd be willing to spend a little money if it's a good pattern.  I've been scouring craftster and have been looking at Simplicity patterns. But the thing is, I can't buy things online. So I need a free website or a pattern I can buy at JoAnn's. I'm also willing to do a swap with someone if they had any vintage patterns they could copy and send me.

I'm specifically looking for a dress a la Twiggy. Short, bold, and I'd like personally like sleeveless, but that's not nessesary. These are dresses I like:

Ideas! Please!

I'd like to know as well, as I've been looking at this pattern for ages. It looks really cute, but I feel like it would just look like a sack on me. Maybe I'll just give in and make it anyways.

38  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: Do you buy candles in the summer? on: June 22, 2006 07:43:49 PM
I think that is probably true. personally my mom loves candles and i buy them year round to keep her in stock. in the summer i buy her mostly citrus and fruity scents. in winter i buy vanilla, maple, and scents like smell like sweet food. in fall i by pumpkin and other "spice" scents, and in spring i buy flower scents. (I'm really into seasons- i dunno)

I do exactly the same thing.

40  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Unique Name Swap? on: May 25, 2006 05:55:04 PM
BTW:  I love the name Genevieve...one of my faves!

Sweet!  I personally can't stand it because I can't find my name on ANYTHING and when I tell little kids that Genevieve is my real name, they think I'm the dog from Madeline.  Not fun.

Haha... my name is Madalyn. Little kids are always telling me that I'm "the girl in that story." I feel your pain.

And I would love to do this swap! If I'm eligible for swaps when sign-ups begin....
