1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / water polo hat thingy? on: November 29, 2007 11:03:02 PM
so my pal's bro owns a water polo company...thing...stuff... i don't really know.  he owns a business that has something to do with water polo.  anyhoo, my pal asked me to make a hat for his bro that looks like a water polo cap, but you know, knit.  i have a pattern i think i can modify well enough but i'm having trouble figuring out how i'm gonna make the ear thingys (sorry, i know nothing about water polo, let alone the technical terms for the uniforms, but i do like watching cute boys play  Wink )   they kinda stick out a little, i think i can get away with making them solid, without the holes, as it seems the holes are different on each style.  anyone got any ideas?  i'd love to just be able to crochet in the round but for some reason i can't.  i've tried a million times to and it just never works for me.  any help would be great, as this is supposed to be an x-mas gift (yeah, thanks for letting me know so close to x-mas pal, oh and thanks for telling everyone i'm taking commissions without asking me, jerk.  my list is now soooo long. ok rant over.  good thing i'm celebrating the holidays with my family in january!)
2  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / skeleton costume for my nephew (lots o pix) edited to add action pix on: October 28, 2007 08:12:39 PM
so my nephew is 15 months old and his mom wanted him to be a skeleton but not one of those cheesy ones you can get at the store, so being the crafty auntie i am, i made him one.  and just in the nick of time!  i used simplicity pattern 3594, the lion, just changing it by not adding the mane or tail, and omitting the ears.  i like it and i hope she does too. here are some pix
hood lining

the paint is still drying, i did it all free hand.  and the zipper looks wonkey on the back but its not.  i'm not sure if they are gonna use the hood or not so i didn't paint it, its been so hot in so. cal. that i think it would be a bit too much.  its all made out of flannel so he will be warm.  comments and criticism is always welcome (be honest with me!)

edit: added pix of him in it!
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / great baby patterns on: July 03, 2007 06:14:40 PM
so, i just found out that my sister is having a baby and i couldn't be more thrilled!  Grin Grin Grin not only do i get to be an aunt but i now have a baby to knit for!!! (my friends have kids, but you know that whole knitting for a non-crafter thing, and i know my sis will appreciate it)  so now i need some great baby patterns, i have mason dixon knitting so she will be getting things from that, and since she just found out i have some time (not to mention i don't know the sex of the baby, being so early and all).  c'mon girls (and guys) i know you have some tried and true adorable baby patterns, help a lady out! please!
4  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / skull and crossbones, my first stencil! on: April 24, 2007 07:43:27 PM
first of all, thank you to everyone who put up great stenciling advice!  i recently bought my first "grown up" luggage for an upcoming trip and i decided (in true craftster style) that it was too plain for me, so i stenciled it!  i made a few "first timer" mistakes, mainly i didn't make sure that my stencil was firmly against the fabric so the paint bled a bit but i fixed it with black paint, haha.  i'd love to know what you all think!
(i don't know how to add pix so here's a link  Tongue)
