There's a football game today (GO BULLS!) so I have an excuse to look like a crazy.  'Hawk time!

I promise I do not have scary zombie eyes.  I have no idea why my camera did that.

Thanks for the recommendations, I picked up some liquid latex and plan to experiment with it well in advance of pulling off the actual costume.

I'm planning to wear this to our "Vice and Virtue"-themed party, and hopefully to a HUGE costume contest in Ybor City called Guavaween.  So it has to be good!

Here's my progress on the costume so far....

Original concept sketch:

Go here to see it big so you can read the text.

The backpiece, carapace (helmet-sort-of-thing), and belt will be made out of a combination of plastic and polymer clay, with some circuit boards and assorted mechanical bits thrown in for effect.

The skirt/bra are going to be made of some synthetic, ragged-looking brown fabric.  Not quite sure what yet.

I'd like for a lot of it to light up... especially the mask and back piece, so I've taken to cannibalizing children's glasses I got at the dollar store for LEDs.

A disassembled pair:  you get 3 very small batteries, 6 LEDs, some circuitry, and a little bit of usable wire out of each one.

And here's a lit-up LED/battery pack:

More pictures to come as I work and plan things out.

Tips, suggestions, or comments that I'm insane and this is the stupidest idea ever are all totally welcome!!  Wink

OK, so this is weird... This is the 2nd card about the show Friends I got this week!  The last one was a few days ago.  What are the odds of that?

Also, I realize it's tempting to discuss the secrets, but the military one is a REALLY sensitive topic for a lot of people, so I'd rather we keep the discussion non-political.  Everyone has been polite so far but I'd rather stop it because things have the potential to get ugly.

I hope you understand.   Smiley

I love the nun card!

Two came for me today:

This one is tiny, only about 3 inches long!  It looks so cute next to all my other ones... like it's the "baby brother" or something.

'I don't want to have sex, I just want to sleep in a bed with a boy'

I totally prefer sleeping together (and actually sleeping) to "sleeping together".

Number 6 came for me today:

28  Re: OK, You are going to laugh at me! in Spinning: Completed Projects by Jillie on: September 18, 2007 11:13:33 AM
I'm glad I could make you guys smile!

omg! thats an awesome spindle! maybe I could get my  boyfriend into spinning with that...

If a screwdriver isn't manly enough for him... he could try my other one, "Going Nuts":

A couple of brass/lead nuts I found on the ground walking home from the library, hot glued to a knitting needle.  I made this one today because I wanted to try spinning with a heavier spindle.  For now I'm still doing the rubber-band-across-the-top thing, but I'm planning on filing off the point of the needle and putting in a hook.

I don't have a spindle.  I tried to make one, but it didn't work out so hot.

But I still wanted to spin!  So I improvised with what I had in the house, which was...

Basically I used it as a bottom-whorl, with a rubber band wrapped around the top to hold the yarn in place.

And here's what I spun with it:

About 12 yards/half an ounce of wool roving I bought from E-bay.

I really love it, planning on spinning the rest of the roving so I'll have enough to knit a scarf!
