31  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Dad's Retirement Party .... Please help on: March 06, 2007 08:00:33 AM
My Dad is Retiering in June.
He is a UPS driver, a voulenter fire fighter, Voulenter EMT, Harley Owner, Music lover (classic rock, blues) , Business owner (Limousine Company that he & My Mom run), Grandfatehr of 5, Father of 3.
He is a casual type guy, not a suite & tie kind of guy.
When he isn't in his UPS browns he is in a nice pair of jeans or cargo shorts & a harley t, or a denim shirt.
What we have so far:
~We are having the part on a SUnday afternoon at the fire hall.

~ We will sell tickets for admition just to cover coasts
~ prob a local band to play for an hour or so

Rather than a gift we are going to raise $ to make a donation to Mercy Flight. (the emergency Helicopeter Transport Service.)
I think what we are going to do is do a basket auction (call local business to get donations for the baskets).

Any suggestions?  Centerpireces? Decorations? A theme?  Food? (we are thinking poss a chicken bar b que.)

32  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Quotes for book marks? on: November 14, 2006 10:58:02 AM
I am giving my sisters in law & my freinds gift subscriptions to magazines for Christmas ( & hopping like last year that the magazine doesn't stop publication!) I want to make some simple book marks to add to a copy of the current mag to wrap & give on Chritmas. (I'm also addeing a a couple packs of the little tiny postits that are used as flags to mark pages that want to mark.
I want to do book marks something like this:http://fredflare.com/customer/product.php?productid=1323&cat=350

I figure I'll just make them on the computer & type the phrases in a cool font in color & print them on white or cream card stock & laminate them. Easy peasy!!

Any suggestions for quotes? I don;t want to copty the ones on Fred .... "I am thinking It was the best of times, it was the worse of times ...."                "A tale of ...."              "A prince on a horse"

33  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / I'm a dummy .... please help! on: November 12, 2006 09:11:55 AM
I ironed on some sublime patterns to cloth baby diapers to embroider. I can't get the hoop on the diapers, it's thicker in the middle & the hoop won't go on there... If I  use a bigger hoop out side the tripple thick fabric it is all floppy... what to do??!!

36  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Not TOO unhealthy ... dinner from Dollar Tree!!! on: October 06, 2006 10:27:04 PM
Our Dollar Tree has freezer cases & diary/cooler cases.

So my neice (10) & our friend Cass (7) thought we'd see what differnt BALANCED meals we could buy there. ** We checked exp dates on all packages nothing (other than milk) had a date less than 2 weeks away)

Here are some examples:
**Malto Meal Frosted Wheat Square ( like frosted mini whaeats) Cereal, Skim Milk, Frozen Strawberrys (leave bag in fridge to defrost over night)

** Turkey Baccon (I didn't try it, but it looked leaner than reg baccon), Eggs (they acctually had 18 packs of eggs (med size) from a local farm. Land o Lakes Brand cheese slices. (there were 8 slices in a pack for $1, the off band the packages were bigger, but Land o Lakes the first ingredient was MILK, the off brand it was OIL...yuck)
** Pilsbury low fat Biscuts, Jimmy Dean sausage Patties from freezer section, eggs.

** Hard Boiled eggs add mustard, salt, pepper, (mayo from home) served on wheat crakers (like triscuts), indivdual cups of applesauce (6 to a pack)

** Beef/Soy Patties (actually not too bad, 4 patties to a package frozen) a slice of cheese on top served with mixed frozen veggies. Pickles on the side.

**  Yummy Yummy Jamacian Meat pies. $1 each. Nucked then put in toaster oven for just a few mins to crisp the crust a bit. Served with thawed frozen strawberries over a vanilla pudding cup (4 to a package)

** Pasta & Sauce, (parmasan cheese from home) with frozen Turkey meat balls. (I think there were 15 in a bag. it said 4 servings but the girls each ate 4 or 5 of the meat balls) Pilburry Low Fat Italian bread loaf.

** A can of tomato soup, add a bag of frozen veggi mix (the kids came up with this them selves & they ate it!!) Pillsburry bread & or crackers to dunk. Heat the Beef & Soy pattties chop up & add them.

I'd like to try this with tomatoe soup, SALSA & the beef patties. Add a little tobasco  ....  i think that might be good.

They also had frozen packages of chicken thighs... a little leary to try those.

It's been really fun cooking with them. they loo at things much differntly than me .... I never thought they would have come up with that soup. It's funny watching them look at the stuff in therre baskets & decide what else will work with it.
