11  A quilt fit for a yellow submarine! in Quilting: Completed Projects by gkswife on: June 29, 2009 12:59:08 PM
I made this for a friend who has a serious love of the Beatles but doesn't sew. It is a Queen sized quilt, machine sewn and hand tied, I used warm & natural batting. The hand tying took a lot of time but I am so happy with how it turned out, you can see very little of the tying and I like the way the quilt looks and feels .

Here is the panel that is the center of the quilt, I used several different colors to tie it to match so it wouldn't take away from the image.

Here are a couple shots of the whole thing on a queen sized bed (not the one it will be on hence the non matching bedskirt). The color is most true in the first image.

Here is the back:

It is definitely not a perfect quilt but I am thrilled with how it turned out and so is it's new owner!

Comments & constructive criticism appreciated

12  Re: Proud to be a Christian Swap; Gallery of Goodness!! in The Swap Gallery by gkswife on: April 13, 2009 06:45:03 PM
I received Saturday but finally got pics today! Nikimac sent me these great goodies!

All together:

A votive holder decorated inside with poly clay and includes a yummy smelling candle,  a glasses case decorated with sunflowers (I love sunflowers!), a gorgeous pink bracelet with a butterfly charm (I love the symbolism of butterflies and new life), labels for the stuff I make (from my wists!), Fish earrings (one of my favorite Christian symbols is the icthus), and a laminated card with my favorite verse on one side and a cross made from palm branches on the other (this may actually be my favorite thing!).

picture of the bracelet on:

Thanks nikimac!

13  1979 Star Wars sheets into 2009 Valances - some things never get old! in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by gkswife on: March 06, 2009 03:33:14 PM
My oldest son who is 8 has had a love of Star Wars for 3 years now and it keeps growing! One day while Goodwill hunting (the thrift store not the movie) I found these awesome original Star Wars sheets, twin fitted, flat & a pillowcase. I know I used a big part of the flat sheet for something but for the life of me I can't remember what. So having only the fitted sheet left to make valances out of I set to work measuring all 4 of my sons windows. After cutting it into 4 even pieces I serged all the edges so that I wouldn't have to hem the bottoms and lose more length. Then I made a pocket for the curtain rod and voila!

This is the window over his LEGO play area

This one is the first one you see as you come up the stairs

This is opposite the LEGO area

This is the one he can see from his bed & desk

Just to prove what a Star Wars freak he is here is his bed with 2 Star Wars blankets - the black old school one was a $3 thrift store find, the green Yoda one I made for him (using Yoda flannel I got at a thrift store) The standard pillowcase I made, the square fleece pillow he tied on his own from a kit, the 2 small pillows on the end were made from shirts he outgrew.

He loves his Star Wars room and even loves that his mom made it for him - gotta enjoy that while it lasts!!

14  Git R Done!! in CHALLENGE 35 ENTRIES by gkswife on: February 05, 2009 05:31:06 PM
I am absolutely horrible about saying I'm going to do or make something and then not getting it done for a really long time or ever!  I'm especially bad about it when it comes to crafty stuff, take my Etsy shop for example I have great ideas to get stuff in there and yet can't seem to git r done. Now that we moved our new house has a room for me to craft in (that is not the dining room!) and more room to work so there are really no excuses! So my resolution is to "Git R Done" and quit saying I'll do it and actually do it!! I created this bulletin board to help me see what I need to do and organize it.  The first section is "To Create" in other words it's my to do list. The middle section is "In Progress" for the items that I am currently working on. The final section is "Completed!" for the things I have finished so I can see how much I have accomplished. The only thing I purchased for this project was the 87 cent bottle of purple paint for the border, everything else I already have - which helps use up my stash, a whole other resolution!

Here it is with my items "to create" on it. On each paper I have the item name, who it's for, if it's an order I have places to record payments, dates it should be completed if applicable, and an area to record what I still need to purchase or find to make the item.

Sitting on the work table it will be hanging above once I get the hubby to hang it for me!

I am very excited and I have already organized a lot of the materials for the items in the "to create" column. I think this will be such a great help for me and can't wait to see the "completed" side full!

Thanks for looking and I'd love your vote if you think it's worthy!

15  Re: ANOTHER Pin Cushion Swap Round 10 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by gkswife on: February 04, 2009 04:50:34 PM
That is one fantastic fishy!!

I got mine from missgabbielynn today and I LOVE it!!! It's wearable which is great since I always seem to drop my pincushion off the ironing board when working there! Plus it will always be my favorite time - time to sew!!!

It has velcro (which she left for me to adjust -- perfect!) to keep it on

Thank you so much missgabbielynn this was a great swap!

16  Re: Valentines Embroided Tea towel .:. Send out 02/03 in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by gkswife on: January 25, 2009 02:26:21 PM
I finally got time to get the pics taken! dharma-rebel did such a great job!

She made me the Queen of Hearts since I am the "Queen of Cakes" (these are her words, not mine). I think she is beautiful - I never would have thought to do something like this which makes me love it even more!

The small item is a cupcake pincushion with little beaded sprinkles -- I love it!!! I've had to grab it out of my dogs mouth a couple of times already, apparently she likes it too! She also sent me a cute little tin filled with chocolate, because as she said "what's Valentine's Day without chocolate!" I totally agree! The cute ribbon was used to wrap some of the items and I love it!

This card is so amazing - she made it and it just blows me away! I love it!!!

Thank you so much for everything dharma_rebel  you did an amazing job and were a fantastic partner!

17  Re: Be my Valentine Atloitds tin swap in The Swap Gallery by gkswife on: January 16, 2009 08:45:25 PM
I received from spotnik today! We both celebrate our anniversary on Valentine's Day so it was a great match!

Here is the outside of the tin, with the heart magnet that had been on the top beside it.

The side and bottom:

inside, though I may debate before giving up the last cookie!:

the goodies!!! The wooden bracelet is a gift for my 5th anniversary as wood is the traditional gift, a wonderful note, a bookmark (I always need more), the black bag held the poly clay beads she made me so that I can make my own necklace.

I love it all - thank you so much spotnik!

18  Re: Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas tin in The Swap Gallery by gkswife on: December 13, 2008 08:24:02 PM
I received from IllusionsOfNormal yesterday and was totally blown away. The tin is so totally amazing! We really were perfectly paired! I'm putting some of the pics as thumbnails - please click on them to see their full glory!

Here is the front of the tin - the figures are done with poly clay

The back of the tin, an awesome collage

The inside - she created a little book that fits in here with an amazing poem that she wrote and illustrated, I will write out the poem but please remember that it is her work and any use of it needs to be approved by her. The illustrations are so amazing and I wish I could show you the amazingness of this tin!

Snuggled in our beds
On Christmas Eve night
Our minds drift off
In dreams of delight.

Enjoying our presents
Exchanged with great love
Should always remind us
of God's gift from above.

On the very first Christmas
The star shone so bright
To lead the poor shepherds
To the manger that night.

They found a new baby,
A perfect little boy,
Born to Virgin Mary
and worshiped with joy.

For this little baby
Was born to save.
To guide and to teach us
How to behave.

He gave his own life
On a rugged old cross
So that we could be saved
And delivered from loss.

So here on this Christmas
Take to heart the real reason
And worship Christ Jesus
The TRUE gift of the season.

Inside with the book were these awesome goodies - buttons, stickers and snowmen! It is all so perfect!

I am so thrilled with my tin - this has been a fantastic swap for me!! IllusionsOfNormal - you did an amazing job - thank you!
