1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / 7 weeks pregnant on: November 16, 2009 12:57:38 AM

Yesterday we got the exciting news that there will be a baby in the family soon, my sister in law is pregnant, she's 7 weeks far.
A couple of weeks ago we decided to have a little family gathering on 5 dec. and to buy little gifts for everyone and a big ( +-25 dollar) gift for 1 person. We wrote all our names on a piece of paper and without looking we took a name.
Now here's my question: I have my sister in law and I was wondering what I could buy/make her, would she prefer something for the baby or something for herself? I already tought about 'pregnancy in a box' or something like that so I could put all kind of things a pregnant woman needs in a beautiful box but I haven't been pregnant yet so I don't know what a pregnant woman needs. Does anyone have some advice? I think chocolate and tea will be a big hit but what else?

2  New York / New York: Central / first time ny visit on: November 04, 2009 12:11:33 PM

I'm Elien and I live in Belgium, I'm visiting New York in august 2010(Yeah I'm early but I can't wait with planning my trip  Cheesy).
This will be my first time visiting America and New York so I was wondering if someone could give me some advice or useful websites.
Do you know a lot of places that I must see or do? I already saw that I can get a metro card for a week for 25 dollar and that there's a free ferry where you pass the statue of liberty. Are there other things like that?
And do you know of great craft supplies/food that you only find in the USA?

Thanks for the help!

3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Blanket on: May 11, 2009 02:11:07 AM
I'm kinda new to knitting and I only made a scarf up till now. Since I'm moving in a couple of weeks I'd like to make a comfy blanket for when I'm watching television. What sort of knitting needles should I use for a blanket?
I've heard of knitting needles with a piece of plastic between them that connects them, is this what I should use?
+ do you have other tips for me?

Love bonbabbu!
4  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / red and black living room? on: March 20, 2009 04:43:40 AM

I'm in the process of buying my own place and I was thinking of painting 3 of my living room walls in red and one 1 white,
I have interior decorating stickers with poppy's and I would put them on the white wall. Would this work or not?
Most of my furniture will be black. Does this colour combo work or will it be too dark/gothic?
5  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / toilet roll on: September 08, 2008 04:12:49 AM
so this is my problem:

I'm going to a crafts fair in two weeks and there's a challenge going on. We have to decorate a toilet roll and we can do whatever we want with it and use whatever we want.
I'm not sure what I can do to it apart from just painting .
Does someone have an idea?

Thanks a lot!
6  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Discussion and Questions / German lady makes clothes from dog hair on: August 30, 2007 01:22:01 AM
This was in the paper this morning:

German lady makes clothes from the hairs of your dog.
Clothes made from your dogs hair...It may seem sinister but a German lady is earning a lot of cash with this!
She makes shawls, gloves,... You name it and she'll make it. Bettina Menkhoff is her name.

"I came up with the idea when I bought socks that were made out of Bobtail-wool. I have four Bearded collies and I started shaving their fur. There is one condition tough! The hairs must be longer than four centimeter. Believe me! It even feels warmer than wool made out of the fur of a sheep" . Thus the fifty year old lady.
Who is interested in having its pet always with him, can take a look on her website: http://www.jolly-fellows.de
(I translated it myself so sorry if I made mistakes)

I know a lot of people are sceptic about makes things out of dog/cat fur but I think this lady is right, it may even be softer.
I bet she's a craftster en came up with the idea here Cheesy
What do you guys think about this?

(I just saw on her website that she spins the fur so I don't know if this topic is in the right place, sorry if it's not but I think felters will find this interesting too)
7  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / m&p coloured with kool aid on: July 31, 2007 06:54:35 AM
I've heard lots of positive things about colouring soap with kool aid,
Last friday I coloured my soap with kool aid and it with a nice pink, a little bit like strawberry yoghurt but the colour is almost completely gone by now.
Is this normal? Did I use enough/ too much kool aid?
8  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / coffee soap on: July 09, 2007 11:59:21 PM
So I've recently gotten into making m&p soaps and I'd like to try a coffee soap with coffee in it but at the same time I'd like the soap to be more white than transparant (or brown from the coffee).
Has anyone any advice on how to do this?
9  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Disco thingy on: May 26, 2007 02:48:35 AM
I have this sort of thing that was hanging before the lights of a disco bar installation and I really have the feeling that I can make something with it but I just don't know what.
Does any of you crafty gals know what I can do with this?
I have three of them!

10  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Discussion and Questions / How much wool? on: February 03, 2007 04:03:32 AM
I really want to try to make a felted bag but I don't know how much wool I need for this. Does anyone have an idea or could someone give me a link?
