i love this little hue heffner set.  we have joked about our son needing some huge heffner pj's cause he loves the feel of "silky " on his skin.  he has this blanket that he has loved on since he was tiny tiny, and its always the silky side he wants.

id love to know how you  made the shirt, or how to make any shirt really lol, cause i found two silk shirts i plan on reconing into pj's for him soon.

all your recons look great.  i love the tye dye gown.  ive been wanting to try one of these but i feel a little intimidated by it.. well by sleeves mostly lol.   the only clothing ive ever made is pants and shorts. good job, and congrats on your 3rd.

i replied to your other post in the questions about kids clothing board and i just now stumbled on this one. your kimono looks great, i would have never thought to use ribbon as binding.  i would have done it the hard way and made enough binding out of some fabric lol.  i think ill try ribbon !
26  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / some onesies on: April 14, 2010 12:18:29 PM
ok so i didnt make  the onsies but i made the patches on them... that counts right.

from left to right

rar lion, 18m gerber t shirt. ( big brother, who is 4 months short of being 3 has been wearing this around the house )

the winking owl, 0-3m yellow gerber onsie

little green elephant, 0-3 yellow gerber onsie

we wont know if were having a girl or a boy for another few days, so i tried to make these at least somewhat gender neutral.

heres a bee i embroidered.... it was a little to girly i thought, so i saved it just incase we have a girl.. if not ill just put it on something for myself.

im also working on a kimono top, made from the same orange seersucker fabric the lion was embroidered on. ( i think it might be a tad bit tacky lol )
27  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Discussion and Questions / Re: Baby shirts on: April 14, 2010 11:59:52 AM
im due september 18th, but im convinced it will be sooner lol.  my first was a week early.

this post put me in the mood to sew and i cut out a kimono this morning lol.

id love to do the onsie painting thing at my shower ( my mom already decided i had to have one lol )  but most of the people i know are all sticks in the mud about things like that, so maybe ill just have my own onsie party with my friends or something.  i know we will have a tye dye party soon, so maybe ill just scoop up a bunch of second hand onsies for that too !
28  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Discussion and Questions / Re: Baby shirts on: April 13, 2010 11:03:29 AM
i have two suggestions  the baby kimono
ive made one of these for my 2 year old, it was super easy.. and im rather lazy lol so its really easy i swear.

and these baby gowns from t shirts.  i think these would be great because they are made just like a onesie and you could make them shorter to be shirts instead of gowns, or make them like a onesie.

the infant gowns were just made from taking apart an existing gown so i dont see why you couldnt find one baby shirt you like the shape of and deconstruct to make a pattern.  when i made the kimono for my two year old i realized when the sleeves are that tiny you dont really have to fuddle with angles and what not.

have a baby shower, i promis, you will end up with plenty of onesies and you may not even need to make shirts to go with your rockin little pants.

p.s.  were expecting a little critter in september, and im really excited to make some tiny pants, im so glad you posted!  and congrats.
29  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: ideas on adding straps to a knit strapless on: April 12, 2010 02:50:33 PM
thanks for the suggestions and congratulations.  i found some twill ribbon with grommets that i think will work nicely to sort of cover the straps, but i think id really like to have a bolero or shrug, since its usefull with other things.
30  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / ideas on adding straps to a knit strapless on: April 11, 2010 08:29:28 AM
i need some ideas on how to add straps to a strapless dress.

its just a knit maxi dress, think tube top that reaches the floor.
i can wear it with a strapless bra, but a. its uncomfortable because im pregnant and these things are getting bigger every day, and b. i hate the shape of the cups on my strapless bras.. i dont care for the cone boob shape.   i have two wonderfull bra's i love to death but they arent strapless or convertable, hence the need for straps.

i just need something to put on the dress so that when i wear it im not just flashing my bra straps to the world....  i dont mind if they show a bit, but i dont want it to be obvious im wearing a bra with a strapless dress lol.  the dress is black and so is the bra so its not that big a deal.. i just feel tacky.
