21  UNITED STATES / Massachusetts / Anyone at Simmons GSLIS? on: July 21, 2006 07:39:26 AM

I'm a student at Simmons in the GSLIS program (in Boston).  While I was dragging myself to class last night I saw someone with a Magpie shirt on... and it made me think.  There must be more craftster-types at Simmons.   I know there's a pretty active Stitch & Bitch, but I don't knit!

I'd love to start a little group even if it's just to complain about how work gets in the way of crafting.

Anyone else interested?
22  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / two more necklaces on: July 20, 2006 04:02:36 PM
I made these for the July Wishlist Swap.  She just received the package so now I can show them off.

This one is lapis and mother of pearl with sterling silver chain segments.

This one is glass beads and leaves.  It's my first really long necklace.

What do you think?
23  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Discussion and Questions / taking nice pictures of jewelry? on: July 19, 2006 08:04:35 AM
Does anyone have advice for taking nice pictures of jewelry, especially beaded necklaces, with a digital camera?  Mine always seem to come out a lot less classy than the ones I see around here...

24  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / two multistrand necklaces on: July 19, 2006 08:03:06 AM
I made this one about a week ago.  It's my new favorite.  It has a nice weight to it.  It's 3 strands of glass beads and red coral.  Each strand hangs just slightly lower than the other.

I especially love the clasp...

I made this one on Monday night while watching Super Nanny.  Smiley  I don't remember what the green square stones are but the purple ones are dyed shell and glass.

Comments would be lovely.
25  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects / fun m&p soaps [3 pics] on: July 19, 2006 07:49:58 AM
So these are my first attempt at melt & pour soaps... I read lots of advice before I got started.  Smiley

Here is a layered citrus soap.  Pink = grapefruit, orange = orange and yellow = lemon.  I used essential oils and food coloring and I poured it all into a Chinese food take out container and cut it up (I need to work on making the cuts perpendicular to the board...).

And here's a piece I wrapped up for a friend..

Then I cut some chunks of the layered soap and made these with clear melt & pour in plastic fruit cups...

What do you think??
26  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Diseased bath bombs?!? on: July 01, 2006 12:42:26 PM
I made my very first batch of bath bombs today using Cat's FanFreakinTastic manual...
however, the first few I made now look like they have the measles.  Where did I go wrong?

Notice that only a few are diseased.  I have no idea what I did differently.  I made the purple ones with citric acid, baking soda, oat flour, lavender essential oil, grapeseed oil, and vanilla bean.

Thank you so much!!
