31  Re: Embroidery Hoopla R4, Diptych Round - Gallery (SendOut 3/21/11) in The Swap Gallery by honeyd on: March 29, 2011 06:00:48 PM
Hi Guys!

I'm back from my trip and just went through the 20 pages I missed here!!  WOW!

I love so many of these hoops!  Amazing!!  The Star Wars ones are phenomenal, I love the mixture of Day of the Dead and and geekery.  where I can do this... =)  Those blood french knots are amazing, and I love the hot air balloon and Alice!  I don't even like Alice in Wonderland, but I LOVE that hoop!

Now here's my goodies! I received from AlmostDawn the other day and just got to taking photos so here we go:

The two of them on my wall:

Rainbow Brite:

Twink (he's so fuzzy and soft!!):

Them in their new home with my Rainbow Brite collection.  Don't they fit well:

I love these hoops so much!  Thank you AlmostDawn!  They are so bright and fun!  I love them!

32  Re: Crafty Detective Rd. 7 (signups Jan. 31 - Feb. 14, 2011; sendouts Apr. 14, 2011) in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by honeyd on: March 29, 2011 05:19:00 PM

I'm back from my trip to catch up on these questions and post progress, and hints... wow I missed a lot! =)

40. If you were to receive something in a frame, any preferences about the frame?(S is for Summer-Pg.128)   You know those really frilly ones in bright colors?  Yeah that's me.  Or frilly but in black.  Oohhh, or grey... nice elephant grey. =)
I like starfish and narwhals.  and whales.  and shark teeth, shells are fun, but not so much in the shell frame way.
42. How do you feel about dinosaurs?(leashh-Pg.129) I'm a cakesaur. =)  I luff dinos.  Especially cute ones.
43. If I were to make you something that you'd specified you wanted, and did it to the best of my ability - but to do it I had to learn a new craft - so it's not as good as an expert could do it - would you like it - or would you prefer me not to bother? Do it to the best of your ability.  I'll be pleased either way =)

Crafting update: I'm done.  Grin  I'm taking Friday to put together my package and gather all the extras I'm sending and will probably ship saturday or monday.  So here's a question for everyone: When thinking of a reveal, do you want a scavenger hunt type thing?  Or is it cool if I just put little post its all over your parcel?

Hints: Hmmm... three hints....
1) I live East of you  Grin (I'm east of most of the country)
2) Our styles cross in the 500 Days of Summer sort of way.
3) I've been to your state a few times and am even contemplating moving there.  (can we be friends??)

Pinterest: I just got my invite!  I'm slowly filling up and planning on transferring my wists over.  Is this a good idea?  Other pinteresters will you follow me?  and I'll follow you too!! =)  (if you see honeyd is now following you that's me!  I went through the last 20 pages here and followed everyone who has one in their sig =) )

Ok, I think we're good, right??

33  Re: Reading Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by honeyd on: March 29, 2011 03:50:21 PM
I think I'm all caught up with the messages I missed from this swap while I was away.  I really love everything I've seen so far.  We've done such a great job!   Grin  Grin

Now I need to share the FANTASTIC package I received from PirateColey.

All together:

I'm dying to get started on some of these books she sent!

Just the crafty items here.

This bag is AWESOME!  It's the perfect height for me and such a great color!  I'm so in love with it!

I'm a sucker for bags that have cute lining fabric. =)

This is the item she mentioned in the thread having a horrible time with.  Well, it came out GREAT!  It's so bright and fun, I love it!

And look! My iPad fits perfectly!  It's going to be the best way to read in bed!  I'm so excited!

This is the most amazing mug I've ever seen!  I'm THRILLED that it's mine!  My grandmother had a collection of china tea cups that I've inherited so now my collection will begin with fantastic odd shaped mugs.

And the lovely feather detail!

I love this package so much, THANK YOU PIRATECOLEY!!!  Yours should have gotten there today, I don't know why it sat at Bethpage for a while... =(  Hopefully it will alight upon your stoop tomorrow.

35  Octopus of DOOM!!! It will eat yer ship! in Needlework: Completed Projects by honeyd on: March 03, 2011 04:54:28 PM
So I'm usually a lurker and I'm trying really hard to change that.  I really love swapping and have noticed that maybe if I were more active on OTHER areas of the board I would enjoy the rest of Craftster more... I mean, uh-duh, that's why I'm here!!   Roll Eyes

Anyway -- I made this for the lovely AlmostDawn in round 4 of the hoopla swap where the theme was diptych hoops.  I decided to go with this idea of a tall ship (an evil pirate ship, so it's really ok!) being dragged down by a giant octopus.

As this idea was festering I stumbled across a few... difficulties...  1) I'd never done a hoop that would stay in the hoop.  How would I do the back so that I could have the two hoops stay attached??  2) How can I get the tentacles to "stand" up?  1) I used the wonderful tutorial by onegroovyday for the backs doing the octopus head first and half of the ship then stitching the tentacles on and finishing the ship's background.  There was a lot of flailing around... and many many pin pricks.  But I'm clumsy like that.  2) I wove some wire into the tentacles to keep them up.  It works pretty good when they are against a wall... hopefully it will work for AlmostDawn!

SO without further ado!  My pictures!

the ship

details of the ship (even my dad said: "wow.  you did this by hand?" for my third embroidery I think it looks pretty good.)

the octopus hoop

the bottom details

both of them together

more ship details and the tentacles dragging it down.

I also figured I'd so you my prototype...  I always wanted to do the octopus out of felt, but when I mentioned that to my mom she said it would look better in fabric and why don't I do it that way... well... this is why...

I'm calling him Zombopus.  Or Octobi depending on my mood.   Grin

He's creepy... and I left out a leg... oops... I swear I CAN sew.

Thanks for checking it out!  <3

wow, this place blows up.  haha.

Outerwear: I find I get warm easily and only this year bought a true winter coat.  (with a hood and all) I love gloves (for the way they look) and scarves (because I knit them  Grin) I can never have enough scarves. <3  It's never too late to send this stuff, cause the seasons keep coming.

Cold/Winter: I LOVE winter!!  I mean, I'm ready for spring here in the North East, but I really love snow and cold.  Especially drinking warm drinks on cold nights.

Thinker: I don't really know.  I like to believe I think in the present, but I do look towards the future.  So I guess I'm somewhere in the middle.

Travel: Another love.  I love traveling.  My next trip is California next week (yay!!) and I'd love to visit Europe again, or go back to Japan.  I want to go everywhere.

When I grow up I want to be awesome.  Haha.  I don't know.  Things change all the time.  When I was little I wanted to be a stage actor, and as I got older I decided I'd love to be a professor.  I like my current career as a graphic designer, I just wish it had more stability.

Movies: I like a lot of movies.  My current top five are: Inception, Penelope, Walle, How to Train your Dragon, and 500 Days of Summer.  I'd love to receive crafts related to any of these movies.  Some of the quotes from Penelope and 500 Days of Summer are awesome.

DaisyTattoo!  I love you hair cut!  I would love to go short, but my hair is too thin to pull off a cut like yours.

here's me (looking awkward!):

happy crafting!

oooh stalkee: I'm almost finished with your medium!  =)

38  Re: Fiber Club, Special Edition 2010 GALLERY in The Swap Gallery by honeyd on: October 14, 2010 01:38:46 PM
(grr... I had a whole post written and hit cmd+q by accident. RESET)

I'm so so sorry my fiber friends that I've been MIA.  I've been dealing with chronic pelvic pain (we think it's attributed to endometriosis but aren't sure yet.) that make me not want to move, let alone use my gorgeous wheel!  I love everyone's fiber!  We should do another challenge, it was fun and I think everyone really rose to the occasion!

I love the fiber I received from freestyle and .., thank you!!

from freestyle:

my mom totally swiped this right away to feel it and cuddle!  it's so soft and gllittery!

and from .. :

organic cotton is my FAVORITE fiber to touch (I haven't tried spinning it yet, but I LOVE how it feels)

Oddacity!  That's really funny that you just posted photos, cause I was able to when I checked in first!  haha!  Yours are better then mine anyway!

I simply LOVE the rainbow milk fiber.  I'm DYING to spin it up, but just haven't had the time yet.  It's so vibrant and awesome!  THANK YOU!

This is what SciFunk sent to me:

Sorry it's so washed out but that's the perfect way to see the lovely greens in there.  It's BEAUTIFUL!  She also sent super soft purple and green mohair (I think?  It's already gone into my bits bin!)

Also, Ariaya sent a super lovely package to me!

There were 5 or 6 balls of this lovely blend!  And a bag of mohair locks, which is one of my favorites!  Super awesome!  I sent her a package in return, but I'm not sure she got it, so I don't want to spoil the surprise =)

I'm in for the next round.  I'm sorry I was so MIA this round...  I think the next time I go to the other side of the world I'll be more prepared.  LOL!

I love all of the sea creatures!!  I finally have a photo of the lovely little sea horse Doyouloveanapple sent me!

Isn't he adorable??  Right now he's hanging out with my severed unicorn head on my makeup mirror.  I should start a collection of mounted animal magnets!

Thank you Doyouloveanapple!!  I love it!
