1  UNITED STATES / Nevada / Re: beads in Las Vegas on: September 24, 2006 07:24:16 PM
I will be in Las vegas in October and would love to do some bead shopping. Any where good I should visit? I will be staying on the strip. Thanks

Will you have a car?  If not then really there isn't anything close enough.  The Vegas Beads would not be too far but don't walk through that area.  Between the industrial space and the strip joints not the best neighborhood...

The other store mentioned is nice but a long way off the strip.  You will go by Beads Plus on Sahara & Decator getting to it.  You can take classes for free there - you have to buy the supplies.  Don't know if you have time to kill but its always fun to sit down and bead with others isn't it?

There is another store on Horizon Ridge Parkway in Henderson (name is escaping me!) that has a HUGE selection of stone beads and usually has a special each month (October birthstones are ? it would be one of them) that you might want to add to the list IF you have a car.

The Strip is not in LAS VEGAS proper - its in the county.  Vegas Beads and Beads Plus are in the county.  The other store on Sahara is in Vegas.  Vegas borders the strip to the northwest and the north - oh heck to the north period...lol  Henderson borders the county land to the south east.  Its been a sore subject with the City of Las Vegas that they didn't annex the Strip when the casinos started to build - heck they sent them out there and said downtown would always be the "place".  Yep, huge tax disadvantage for them.  (I live on county land so I think its kind of funny.)

October is a great time of year to visit!  We are fighting between great fall days and warm days still right now...so come prepared for temps down to the low 70s and up to the 90s.

2  UNITED STATES / Nevada / Re: getting a nevada business license on: September 24, 2006 07:15:26 PM
I was wondering what the process for getting a business license is in Nevada. I know how to register a name, but that's the only info I have found so far and understood. Why is everything so complicated, especially when it has to do with government??? Argh!
So if anyone has done it recently, can you give me any links or info. I have done the whole business thing in Canada, but everything is different here (incluiding the letter Z) so any help would be appreciated!

Thats as far as I got too and have been procrastiating on the rest...since you wrote this almost a month ago, gotten any further?

Teachers never make as much money as other professions -- in Las Vegas or otherwise!  It's unfortunate, but a fact of life.  I actually teach because I like to (I know, hard to believe)!

Thanks for mentioning yarn stores.  I was hoping to not have to go to a chain store for yarn.

If you want vintage ribbons and such check out ribbonstore.com - although you would do better to look at her ebay store - The Ribbon Store - to see what she has gotten in recently.  Carol has a mix of new and vintage ribbons nowadays - vintage being harder to get!  She is local to Vegas but doesn't have a store front - is an on line store.  And she carries all the hanah handdyed silk ribbon - a great way to finish off any project/package.

We're still on for today, right?

Anyone else wanna join in on the fun?  I'm surprised no one else has even said anything besides the three of us.

Hi!  Did you get together?  I live in vegas (have for a long time) and am getting back into my creative side - ok never lost it but travel to conferences to feed it since never thought of a local group - but would love to get into a local group just for the support (aka to keep me focused!).

Did anyone else go this year?  Finally went for the first time.  Its in the work week so I never made an effort before.  So this time I was able to go to one day of it.  Went to a lecture on printing photos onto fabric, another on stabilizers, another on transforming sweatshirts (great now that its 90+ here), and an intro to Angelina.  All talks were good.  Shopping area was small and specialized...so it depended on your area of interest.

Just curious to hear if others go and go for the whole session find it worthwhile.

6  UNITED STATES / Nevada / Re: Vegas Thrift Stores? on: April 30, 2006 08:32:27 AM
This one isn't a Thrift store but...I have lived here 10 years before I ventured to it...but try the Gambler's Store in Old Vegas.  Anyone interested in paper arts would love it - they stock all the Casino used card decks...and other very VEGAS type stuff.    Definitely interesting for a one time trip.
