it's actually more of a maroonish with teensy purpley flecks in it.
this is a more accurate depiction of the color. I really loved it! I want to make more lace, I even have 3 skeins of lace weight yarn ready. I just don't know if I want a Swallowtail for myself or not.

thanks everyone! I was extremely nervous about this project. I thought about it many times since March. at one point, I actually didn't think I would want to finish. I have about 2 more projects sitting around, from a few months ago that will more than likely be frogged (they were baby things and the babies have already grown).

Oh, that is outright gorgeous! Can you show it against something white or solid?  I'd love to see the detail.

I finished it the night before we visited grandma, so I blocked it overnight, picked it up the next morning and took the quick shots I have. I totally didn't even think about putting it on anything solid! there are many Swallowtail Shawls out there, you can see (on flickr).
7  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Swallowtail Shawl (my first lace!) on: August 21, 2007 11:36:18 AM
I finished my first lace project, this past weekend. I actually started it in March, got through about half of the repeats of the 2nd chart, then let it sit for FIVE months! that's probably the longest a project's been put away for. I decided to pick it up again, so that I could gift it to my son's great-grandma.

I blocked it on some foam tiles in my closet.

you can see more on my blog!

that's a great first sweater!

I think I've been so spoiled by working sweaters seamless, I'm almost hesitant to look at any patterns that work it otherwise. Perhaps when I branch out of baby sweaters, I will.

I agree with everyone else, this is a fabulous idea!

How adorable. I will have to give this a try although I only have a son, I still want to sew for a girl!

same here! my son (he's 2) actually had this on for a while. he kinda got jealous when i said it was for his cousin. i put it on him to avoid a tantrum. Wink
