1072  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Re: Homecoming Mums (4 photos) on: April 25, 2006 04:58:50 AM
wow that is so neat! I had never heard of Mums before but that's awesome! I wish nevada did something like that Roll Eyes haha.

so start the tradition!  the materials arent expensive.  the ribbons are the outdoor silk ribbon used in floral designs.  the mums can be improvised with a bunch of mum flowers (whatever color you choose) and use a paper plate (small) for the backing.

use different size ribbons.  staple the larger ribbons in the back, the smaller ones in the front.  a little less than a yard in lenght per ribbon.  Or just use one full yard and then cut them down to size according to the girl.

make a bunch and you and your friends where it!  =D

tradition started by my friends and i back in my freshman year of high school is something called "Cow Tipping"

Its the reason why people at my school fear the large cow bells now.

Its a bit mean, but it was ever so fun and everyone got into it.  Even the girls wearing the Bells.  Every time you saw someone with a large bell, you'd run up to them and give them a little shove and shout "COW TIPPING!".  of course if you were me and my friends, there was massive carnage in our little group.  My principal actually described it as "Mosh-pit-like casulties without the loud metal music".  =D

I did love Homecoming tho.  This past year, i believe i made a total of 12 mums for my sister and her friends.  i left off the bells, but i had fun with them.

Consider adding battery operated lights (fairy lights for floral designs), feathers, butterflies, etcetc.  i had a lot of fun with mine.  i'll get some pictures up.

Here's a picture of my sister's mum.  Her school colors are actually Maroon, white and Black, but i've added the orange as a tribute to our former high school.  =D

close up on the actual mum part

Mums can get rather big.  i think my little sister's is about 3 feet in lenght, about a foot in diameter once the ribbons are all spread out.  Weights a good 5 pounds.  Cost me about 40 dollars to make.  Poor girl was overwhelmed by the thing.

i love mum making.  i wasnt expecting to see a post about mums on here!  i cant wait for next season!

i work at Michaels Arts and Crafts and they're gonna have me be the mum girl and make all the mums that are ordered!  YAY!

the tutorial is slightly messed up thanks to sizing, so feel free to just copy and paste the tutorial into word.  or just click the link to the image.  Its an entire giant image.

1075  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / pretty hair clip for formal events! on: April 24, 2006 12:32:52 PM
i made this one for my baby sister to wear in her hair for banquet.  i'm very proud of myself for it because i never do flowers for anything.  but it turned out very pretty!  i want to keep it for myself because its sooo pretty in my hair.  i believe i'm going to make a EGL dress to go with it.  =D

just ignore the fan.  i was trying to recreate a photomanipulation i saw on deviant art without the actual manipulation.  =D
