1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Fairytale Swap Gallery on: January 12, 2007 11:57:40 AM
What stitch was used on the shell in the embroidered mermaid?

I think that she used a slip stitch- well I think that's what it's called!

Sorry it took me so long to respond--I was in India and out of email contact!  I used chain stitch on the shell.  I wanted it to look kind of curvy and bubbly and also a little thicker than the lines making up the mermaid.

I want to say a huge THANK YOU to polkadotcupcake!  I had a great time opening all the things she sent and I love them all!  My absolute favorites are a pair of the most adorable flannel pj's and a set of gorgeous bags--I've been wearing the pjs and carrying the bags around ever since I opened 'em!  There was all sorts of other amazing stuff too--beautiful beaded jewelry, lots of craft supplies, goodies (hee hee)...

Unfortunately we had a mixup with the picture situation--I wasn't able to post 'em from my parents' house and am leaving for India in a couple hours so can't do it now--but there will be pictures as soon as I get back!!  I feel bad that you can't all admire polkadotcupcake's work right this minute....so sorry, Kristi!  I love everything to bits and will try to post pictures worthy of it all as soon as I can!

Um, that is...Pictures of everything except the goodies....they are long gone. Smiley Smiley

I received my package from AmaZing a couple of days ago and am only now getting around to posting pictures.  Thank you AmaZing, and sorry for the delay!!

First, *almost* everything she sent:

Cute boxes, snow queen-inspired jewelry, snowflake-fabric cuff, a couple of pictures and a bunch of craft supplies (beads, bows, little pompoms--which last my cat is going to devour as soon as she realizes they exist Smiley ).

There were also a lot of really cute stickers with pictures from my favorite fairy tales!  And puzzles made from the same pictures.

And by far my favorite thing of all...a Snow Queen bag!!

It has snowflake fabric inside and out, plus my favorite snow queen illustration!  You can't really see in the picture, but there are little beaded snowflake keychains on the handles, too.  My Christmas knitting will be traveling in this bag on the plane tomorrow--doesn't the snowflake theme suit it marvelously?  I'll feel festive every time I pull it out.

Thanks so much AmaZing!  I really hope you'll like what I'm sending you!

Thanks for posting photos of the gorgeous stuff you sent me, lemon floor wax!  I love all of it so much.  I just wanted to put up another photo of the mirror, which is just amazingly pretty:

I have no idea how you managed to get the swallow so lifelike!  Smiley

7  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: new yarn obsession on: November 17, 2006 04:47:35 PM
Dunno, somebody else referred me there once and told me it was Malabrigo, maybe they were wrong and it's just a different company!  I don't have an LYS so haven't actually seen the "real stuff," nor have I knitted with yarn from this site, so don't know if it claims on the label to be Malabrigo.  But email them by all means...maybe there is something wrong.  I thought they were just wholesalers for the cooperative, and that's why it was cheap/took forever to ship.  (It says on the site that the low cost is due to them not having warehouses or something, and thus the long wait.)
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: The World's Biggest Shawl on: November 17, 2006 11:17:34 AM
That's hilarious! Smiley

I knitted a shawl like that once--I had it on circs and thought it was, you know, a normal sized square.  When I finally got done and spread it out, it was taller than me!

Are you sensitive to alpaca as well?  It's lovely and soft and kind of shiny.  I like Knitpicks' worsted alpaca/merino/silk blend (Andean Silk?)--but be warned, it stretches!--and Plymouth Indiecita Super Bulky Baby suri alpaca is nice for scarves...pretty much any yarn store has tons of alpaca in lots of weights, and most all of it is lovely!

I've heard good things about Rowan cashsoft (cotton/cashmere) and Debbie Bliss cotton cashmere, but haven't used them yet (a little out of my price range) Smiley  Knitpicks shine worsted (cotton) is nice enough and I assume shine sport would be too--they drop a little fuzz if you split them, but they're not too bad and kind to your fingers.  Wildflower DK is lovely but way splitty so you have to pay attention to it.

For anyone who's like me and doesn't have an LYS...Malabrigo is available online at Handpaintedyarn.com.  The handspun kettledyed stuff is something like $6.20/100g, and there's laceweight too (I haven't tried it yet, but I hear it's nice).  The shipping takes forever though so get it at your LYS if you can.

There's *angora* like this??  Oh my...I think I need to find some. Smiley Smiley
