1  wavy stitches in Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions by msalowishus on: November 27, 2008 05:42:39 PM
hello. i have been having a problem lately with my straight stitch coming out wavy looking. its only on one side and not constant. i have changed fabrics and rethreaded. i'm not sure if its a problem with the machine, or thread, or the way i'm doing something. here is a scan of what it looks like. i couldn't get a picture because my camera kept focusing on the pattern instead of the stitches. any ideas?

also, is this problem going to result in low quality stitches? in other words, do i need to redo that hem or do you think it will be ok? thanks for any help!

2  wonder woman and her lasso of truth! (giant pictures) in Halloween Costumes by msalowishus on: November 03, 2008 04:33:05 PM
this is my first costume contructed entirely from scratch. i don't dress up for halloween often but we had a party this year so i did. the pictures are not great but hopefully you get an idea.

you can see the golden lasso hanging from my waist in the last two and my red boots, aka socks.

and here is my husband as thor, god of thunder. his costume is mostly reconned and not part of my entry.

also thors hammer is not crafted, but a real, expensive collectible. and the sheet behind him is where we showed movies during our party.

ps. thats a wig

So I'm going to visit family next month and wanted to make some outfits for my nieces. One is about 5 months old and the other is 3 i think. anyway, the 2 for the baby came from the same pattern and the 2 for the big girl came from the same pattern.

first, the dresses for the 3 year old.

number 1:

this one has the cinderella patch on the bottom that i can't decide whether to put on or not.

number 2:

the adorable pockets...my favorite part

dresses for the baby
number 3 with bloomers:

number 4:

this one is actually a romper.

my first successful attempt at snap tape!

i have no idea how this part got so messed up  Huh

i'm so excited to see them in action!!

5  bag of awesomenesss for my man in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by msalowishus on: June 24, 2008 05:43:19 PM
i made this bag for my husband. he told me exactly what he wanted pockets for, and exactly how he wanted them to be. and i made it up. it is for him to carry all his "toys" and other necessary things to work and stuff.

the buckles aren't real, there are magnetic snaps behind each

back side with dedicated kindle ande zune pockets

front side with pouch pockets (and snap enclosure on each one)

secret pockets i accidently made behind each pouch

6  ikea fabric chair taken over by my cat in CHALLENGE 28 ENTRIES by msalowishus on: June 03, 2008 11:19:34 AM
closeup teaser/thumbnail pic  Tongue  i love this fabric

I was really excited about this challenge because I have been way to busy with school to participate in any all year. And then we lucked out when my husband got some free chairs from work. I had gotten the fabric originally for pillows but when I saw the challenge, it was perfect.

so, on to pictures!

i unscrewed and ripped off the seat, then stapled the fabric down. the back of the chair does not come off so i sort of had to just stuff the fabric in the edges around the arms.

the overall view. my cat has seriosuly adopted this chair. even when i am sitting in it she jumps up and sits behind me.

back/side view

any comments or criticisms welcome. thanks for looking!

7  cute and kind of easy baby blanket in Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies by msalowishus on: January 17, 2008 10:01:30 AM
i made this blanket for my niece who is due in march thanks to this post: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=83388.0

i had some trouble with the binding, personally. it bunched a little and the corners didn't line up on both sides (as you can see in the second picture), but i'm pretty happy with it.

it's 2 layers of snuggle flannel and blanket binding.

the one side says "i love mommy i love daddy"

8  winter coat in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by msalowishus on: November 20, 2007 06:20:23 PM
I made this coat for my niece for her birthday. i think it's probably the most advanced thin i've done so far. i had to hand sew all around the inside because there is no lining. i don't hand sew. it took forever! i wish i had more pictures of it.

10  our wedding cake with homemade topper in Weddings and Bridal Showers by msalowishus on: September 13, 2007 06:57:14 AM
my bridesmaid and i made all the decoration for my cake out of cookies. you can see those here:

they were sugar cookies with a little black dye and some yummy kind of icing. my sister's friend made the cake so she gave us the recipes.

wish i had a picture on here of just the cake, but i do not. anyway, here is the cake:

i got the idea from this picture in a wedding magazine like 2 years before i even got married.  Grin
