1  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: Day of the Dead Cross-Stitch on: March 10, 2007 05:45:43 PM
Wow, that's intense.  I love Dia de los Muertos.  Great work, your ancestors would be proud Smiley

I'm not actually Mexican.  lol.  About the farthest thing from it.  I was born and raised on Vancouver Island, and I've spent 2 years living in Japan.
At the store I work at now in Victoria, most of the employees are from Mexico, doing a work experience volunteer program.  Since I have no life outside of work, these guys are my best friends at the moment, and since they outnumber us Canadians, everything around the store is starting to lean towards the Mexican way.  We listen to spanish music, we speak Spanish with each other when customers aren't around, and they are introducing me to real Mexican foods, and culture.
It's nice that I get to learn about another culture everyday.  And I don't even have to leave work...

Due South is one of the reasons I am so obsessed with Mounties.  I have the first two seasons (the better series) on DVD and watch them constantly.  Plus a mild obsession with Paul Gross.  I met him a couple of years ago in Toronto, and wow, just as hot in person!  Anyways...yeah...totally like my favorite show!
3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Fancy Knickers Swap GALLERY! on: March 10, 2007 07:49:40 AM
My partner meimei recived her knickers a while ago, so I thought I would post some pictures.

These are the ones she sent me originaly:

Just boyshorts, with lace edging in mint green and light pink.

She told me that I could hack them up and take the lace off if I wanted, and I tried, but it just wouldn't work, so I decided to work with it.

The first pair is my absolute favourite.  I dyed the pink ones red, and then chopped up the sides and did a lace up style, like a corset.  And then on the front I painted one of my all time favourite quotes.  And then I added random rhinestones on the font and a little rhinestone heart on the back.

So now to pictures....

For the second pair, I had an idea to make them completely crazy.  We had just gotten a bunch of really cool leis in at my store, so my thought was to completely cover the kinckers with flowers.  But because of the time it took to do the first ones (waaaay longer than I thought.....who knew hammering in eyelets was so difficult....) and with the thought I would like to her two wearable panties, I decided to just add a couple of flowers.

So here they are...

My partner said she loved them, so I was happy.  This was such a fun swap.  I was telling my friend about this swap, and I showed her the knickers before I sent them and she loved them so much, she has asked me to reconstruct some knickers for her for her birthday!

Anyways, great swap guys!

Oh, I forgot, but BabyBubba's matchobx failed to make it into the picture (I had to take pictures at work, with my bosses camera), but she decorated it with stickers, and made a cute little face.  Plus it looked like it was a home made matchbox too!

So here are the two wondeful matchboxes I've received from alteredmommy and BabyBubba.  Thanks so much guys!  This was an awesome swap.  It's absolutely amazing how much stuff can be crammed into such a small space.

From alteredmommy:

I absolutely love the Frida Kahlo sticker and the Day of the Dead skull bead!  Thanks so much!

And from BabyBubba:

The carrot button and the glass ladybug are my favourites.

Thanks for being such great partners!

8  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Re: Shared pattern/pattern links on: March 10, 2007 07:22:43 AM
So as soon as xladyluckx posted her fabulous Day of the Dead skull pattern I gave it a try.  I love it so much.  Anyways, I started a new post here:

9  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Day of the Dead Cross-Stitch on: March 10, 2007 07:18:50 AM
So this pattern was posted by xladyluckx in a pattern disscussion thread a while ago.  As soon as I saw it I totally fell in love.  It doesn't hurt that all I've been hanging out with only people from Mexico lately, and they are all slowly converting me...lol.  Anyways, I finished this about three days after the pattern was posted.  I stitched my little heart out all weekend.  For me this was pretty much the perfect pattern.  All bright colours.  None of those stupid half-stitches.  No back-stitching.  And it's designed in easy-to-finish blocks, so immensely gratifying.

Thank you so much for the pattern xladyluckx!!

Thank you for posting pictures Melladh.  I've been working crazy extra hours this week so I was hoping to post pictures tomorrow, on my day off.

Thank you so much for the cards!  They are great.  My favourite is the butterfly one that says 'water'.  It's so simple yet so elegant.

You were a great partner!  I hope my cards get to you soon!
