21  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: Saxon Braid Cable Scarf on: December 12, 2009 04:09:10 PM
Beautiful scarf!  The color of it is so rich.

I love cables, but I've never knit a whole scarf from them.  You're right -- they're daunting!

These look so cool!  The yarn looks super warm and soft.
The colors that you chose look very nice together.

I'm interested as to what this is.
Is there a website I could look at?

Amazing!  I just love Dr. Zoidberg so much.
Your work is always fantastic and oh-so-adorable.
I can't wait to see what's next!  Smiley
26  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Re: Fiber Friday 3/28/2008 on: March 30, 2008 02:13:44 PM
So I'm a little late with pictures, though this has been finished for a few days.  This was from a batt that I carded with wool, angelina, and a ton of firestar.  I used flash to take the picture to show off how shiny it is.

"Green Sparkle" about 150 yards

Someday it will be woven into a decoration for my wall.
27  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Fiber of the Month Swap (March) on: March 29, 2008 03:30:24 PM
I got my package from Star217 yesterday and took pictures today.  Everything is amazing and oh-so-soft!

From left to right, "Abominable Snowman", "Sandstone", and "Spring Chicken".  Great names!

My favorite:

I can't wait to spin them, thanks Star217!  Grin

I spun some green yarn from a batt this week.  Of course, I don't actually have pictures... Wink

How do you do that, plying a single with itself? Do you measure how long it is and cut it in half?

You can wind the yarn into a center pull ball and ply the two ends together.  I have a ball winder, which makes it really simple (and is really fun to wind) but you can easily wind by hand.  Here's a tutorial with pictures: http://birdsnestknits.typepad.com/birds_nest_knits/2006/02/how_to_wind_a_c.html

You could also try Navajo plying, which looks like 3-ply.  Here's the video that I taught myself from: http://www.joyofhandspinning.com/spin-navajo-ply.shtml
29  FIBER ARTS / Weaving: Completed Projects / Re: I Want Candy Scarf (My first woven!) on: March 18, 2008 07:10:19 PM
I use a peg too, It makes warping from back to front so easy. Great job! I'm glad the weaving bug has bitten another spinner.

I tried warping with a peg (the top of a chair) for the scarf I'm working on now and it was a ton easier.
Yep, I've been bit by the weaving bug.  Not quite sure what is next, though.  I mean, I knit, crochet, spin, weave, dye... maybe felting next?  Grin
30  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Fiber of the Month Swap (March) (Sign-up March 1-11, Send March 22) on: March 18, 2008 07:07:14 PM
I finished today and plan on sending tomorrow.

So quick!  I love not having to wait a month to see everything in the gallery (probably my favorite part of the swap).
