31  Need Help Identifying Roving in Spinning: Discussion and Questions by anneadeline on: September 17, 2006 02:43:34 PM
So I got a bag of different pieces of roving from my aunt.  There was this gorgeous roving that was very soft.  I spun it into yarn, but am wondering if anyone can help identify it for me.

Here's a picture of the roving:

I also took a close up for scale:

A label said 'Que Sera Kid' but I'm not quit sure what that is.
Again, I would really appreciate it if someone can give me an idea of what it is.

32  I got a wheel: Lots of hand-dyed yarn! in Spinning: Completed Projects by anneadeline on: September 02, 2006 09:36:22 PM
For my birthday about a month ago, my aunt gave me an old spinning wheel of hers.  I was worried that it would be hard to get the hang of, but it only took me a few hours.  Smiley
Here are the yarns:

^Boucle!  The first time I made it, and I just love how it turned out.  I used roving that I had dyed with food coloring.

^Just a single, but I dyed it with koolaid (lemonade and something else)

^I think this was the first yarn on my wheel.  Dyed the roving and then the yarn with food coloring.

^Dyed with purple koolaid.  I used my own jam-jar method (which I set in the sun to set the dye)

^Very loosely plied, from pink roving and purple roving.

^The first time I plied, made from roving I dyed

^This was actually all done on a drop spindle, before I got my wheel. It is very thin. I love it when people do pictures with coins to show scale, so I had to do one:

I've made a few skeins since, but I haven't taken any pictures yet.  Thanks so much for looking, and I would love any comments or suggestions.  Grin

33  Polka Dots and The Tick in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by anneadeline on: August 06, 2006 11:34:49 AM
Purses that I have made before have been really simple, with no pockets or decoration.  But I put a lot more effort into these two.
First: The Tick messenger bag.  I found This Backpack  when I cleaned out my closet.  I cut it up and used it to make a messenger bag.  I put the straps from the original backpack onto the strap of the messenger bag for decoration and to play with (you can still adjust them)

I was very happy about how the strap turned out:

Second: A pink and green polka dot jordie
This was an experiment with pockets.  They took a while because I haveThere are four of them in all (front pocket, zipper pocket, slit pocket, and another simple pocket)

^two of the pockets^

^the third pocket^

Thanks for looking!

35  I just learned to spin! --6 small skeins in Spinning: Completed Projects by anneadeline on: July 11, 2006 11:45:52 AM
My aunt taught me to spin a few weeks ago, and these are what I have spun so far.  They are ordered from left to right by when I made them (the red, white, and blue was my first)
These are all very small because I only have bits and pieces, but I just ordered about three pounds of wool. I just can't wait to dye my own roving when I get it.

Please excuse all the dog/cat hair, I'm just pretending that I meant to weave it in Wink

36  Re: Show off your hair! And questions about hair styles! in Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions by anneadeline on: June 12, 2006 07:39:14 PM
I just dyed mine using Iguana Green yesterday (I just felt the need for green hair!)

You know, it is very hard to get a picture of your head... which is why I have that expression.  Wink

This is closer to the real color that it is.
I just love how it is so shiny in the sunlight!

37  Hoodie-turned-Corset Top in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by anneadeline on: June 02, 2006 08:57:08 PM
I just finished this corset top!  The laces are mostly decorative, but they can change the size of the shirt a little.  I started with a basic black hoodie that was too small (got it for a gift).  I used a seam ripper to rip off the sleeves, hood, pockets, and the bottom band.
Then I inserted the strips of eyelets and the center panel and sewed it all up.  After I hemmed the sleeves, bottom, etc.
So here it is!

Oh, and here is a picture of what the center fabric looks like:

I found about 8 yards of it in my mom's sewing closet, so now I'm trying to see what I can make out of it. (Free fabric, how can you go wrong?)

Note: It is monotonous work putting all those eyelets in, does anyone know I could buy some kind of ribbon/strap/things (like about one inch wide and eyelets every inch, for example) that already have the eyelets in them?   Thanks!

38  Purple, Stars, and Polka Dots Set in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by anneadeline on: May 26, 2006 08:41:35 PM
So I've been lurking for a while now, and thought I might finally post something here.  Cheesy

These are all made to work together as a set, since the same fabric is used throughout.

This is a basic Jordy purse with purple starry fabric on that outside and the grey polka-dot on the inside.  I didn't use any interfacing, and the fabric is kinda flimsy so the bag isn't that stiff.

I made this mp3 case for my Zen Micro.  It is supposed to hang on a purse or belt loop, but I usually just carry it around.

This wallet is made of the same polka-dot fabric as the purse and mp3 case, but teh purple is different, since I ran out of the starry purple.  The pocket for cards are too big, so the cards fall out if I shake it (why would I be shaking it though?  Tongue )

Thanks for looking!
