12  Crochet :: Eco-Aqua bandana in Crochet: Completed Projects by PerachYafeh on: March 14, 2009 09:08:02 AM

I have been looking around for things to use as a hair accessory.  I needed an alternative to hair rubber bands ! I could not find anything that was nice, feminine and trendy. Well, one can find such a thing every now and then, but when that happen is the prices are prohibitive.

I had the yarn ( pretty aqua yarn from Caron - Simple soft Eco. The yarn is yummy soft. Eco soft is an acrylic yarn with 20% post consumer recycled polyester) but I was still thinking what to do. That is when I remembered, my mom using a crochet bandana to go teaching a few years ago. A beautiful magenta head cover. So inspired by moms head cover picture in my head I made this Eco Aqua bandana using crochet secret stitches in a regular triangular shape. I made some edging to keep the shape and give an extra feminine flair. I think this could be also used as a cool head cover for orthodox married girls (adding a linen for extra modesty).  I am pretty happy with my bandana. Actually I like it so much that this will be my accessory of choice for the cool spring days!

I hope you like it... Smiley

Question? As far as I know the name of this sticth is secret...but is there another name for it?

15  Divine Scarf:: Speed stiX needles in Knitting: Completed Projects by PerachYafeh on: March 03, 2009 07:03:58 PM

Since I got this supersized knitting needle I had been planning to use it in a project with a fluffy yarn. Bear with me here. I call fluffy yarn any novelty yarn that you can barely see what you are doing. This Paton's yarn is called Divine. This yarn is a mix of Acrylic, wool, Mohair and polyester and indeed is, as the name say, divine. I loved working with this yarn, the stitches just sailed from one needle to the other without any problem, and the size of the needle helped to see what I was doing : ). The scarf was made just using purl in one side and knit at the other. To give this scarf a little touch I crossed some of the stitches to make a loose lattice effect. This project was simple, easy, and fast. Now I can definitely sayhow divine. Agree?  Grin

Sorry for the big pic on the top...I tryed 4 time to adjust the size and nothing happend..

Details of swap:
Who doesnt love an APRON and  little surprises?! Aprons, the ultimate accessory is out the kitchen and has now conquered the streets ! For this swap we will be embroidering or cross-stitching an apron, plus making a little something else inspired by Spring time. The APRON can be sewed by you OR can be store bought (so more people that do not know how to sew/no time to sew could join us). So for this Swap 2 items will be made in total, but if you and your partner agree to do more thats fine, just please make sure to communicate so you both end up happy with what you receive. Please do not go overboard. This is a relatively small swap, so we can have some quick and easy fun.

Rules and other info for this swap:
Once partners are assigned please post an update in this thread once a week. You dont have to write more than your crafting progress (status 50%) or even just checking in if you dont want to. People who post weekly are less likely to flake. DO KEEP IN TOUCH WITH THE THREAD AND YOUR PARTNER.

- One week before send-outs I will PM everyone to make sure everythings going okay, see if you will be sending late, etc. If you will be sending late you MUST notify both me and your partner ahead!

- Delivery Confirmation must be purchased unless sending out of the country in which case you must get, and keep, a receipt. Please send me a picture of your receipt if you cannot do DC#s.

- When sending PMs please label them as ESA Swap* with one of the following tags:
* ESA (Embroidery for my Spring: Apron!)

So when sending the questionnaire, the subject will read EVSwap - Approval. When notifying me about sending and receiving packages, add the corresponding tag. If you just have a general question label it as that. This will keep things organized for me. Please do not forget the tag.

- I will set up a gallery once the first person has shipped. Please post pictures when your package arrives. Your partner put a lot of work into crafting for you! They deserve a little recognition! I will not leave feedback until pictures are posted. Its always a good idea to take pictures of your package before you send just in case your partner doesnt have a camera or cant post pictures for some reason.

- THERE WILL BE FEEDBACK FOR THIS SWAP! This is how it will be done:
Great swapper: for those who follow all the rules
Good/Poor communication:  where applicable
Sent late/early: where applicable
Did not follow shipping rule: failed to comply with the shipping rules
Didn't post pictures: failed to post pictures of what they received without an adequate explanation to their partner

Swappers will receive temporary negative feedback if:
- it is one week past send-outs and you are out of communication.
- It is two weeks past send-outs and you have not yet sent, regardless of the communication with me and your partner.

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer: NEWBIES ARE WELCOMED IN THIS SWAP! 1 month of membership + 15 posts required) Grin

18  Embroidery tea towel :: Lovin' (Valentine's day project) in Needlework: Completed Projects by PerachYafeh on: February 14, 2009 08:52:28 PM

My latest embroidery project was this tea towel for Barbolot, my partner at the Embroidery Swap. Cotton floss (DMC) and seed beads were used in this design. I enjoyed this project from beginning to end.  I was inspired by a silly song from my childhood where a worm tries to steal a little kiss from the other wormand you have a whole dance with your finger making worms movement : ) . I know isnt weird the things we remember?
I used sulky pen to make the transfer of my own drawing. Love this pen!!!

19  Pincushion ::: Cake on pedestal in Needlework: Completed Projects by PerachYafeh on: February 11, 2009 08:39:02 PM

This cake and the pedestal are made out of felt. The details in this pincushion, the polka dots, the filling and the four sides of the cake pedestal are hand embroidery with cotton floss (DMC). My favorite thing was shaping the icing cord (cotton cording), with a nice little charm. The picushion has weight so its stands still. I am loving embroidering monograms in my little pincushions. Who got the cake? Mamaphunk!

20  Pincushion ::: Handbag with monogram in Needlework: Completed Projects by PerachYafeh on: February 08, 2009 01:34:01 PM

Hey everyone I had the perfect excuse to unite my girlie side with my crafty side, since I had to prepare a pack for barbolot, my partner at the Embroidery Valentines swap at crafters.
The handbag was made out of felt and cotton scraps. I embroided the monogram (cotton floss DMC) at one of the pockets (all pockets are functional to hold small notions). The charm cord was crochet. I embroided also the edges of the little handbag, to give "designer" feel  Grin
I hope you like it...I had a load of fun making it. It is amazing how a tiny embroidery gives a nice touch to any project.
