1  HOME SWEET HOME / Pet-Related Crafts: Discussion and Questions / very sturdy cavy cage? on: December 18, 2006 06:21:17 PM
I am competent enough to make the nice big roomy cages as described on cavycages.com but I also have sneaky ferrets, and will eventually be living with a big and well meaning doggy who loves to bite birdies (but not people) - I had to watch one of the piggies while I was still living with said doggy and he really wanted to eat the piggie!

My poor little piggy boys are each in their own little guinea pig "starter kit" cage, and I wanted to make a bigger cage for them so they can live together, but it needs to have small enough holes in the walls so the ferrets can't get in, and sturdy enough that a determined doggy can't hurt them.

Any ideas?
2  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / prettiful Christmas Cards and bookmarks on: December 18, 2006 06:00:29 PM
I wanted something very lolita to send to friends this christmas... I made these "thanksgiving weekend"... as in, american thanksgiving november whenever it was.. I'm canadian, but got american thanksgiving off of work for some reason. ah well.

These were my first try, so be gentle Wink

I went shopping with mom first to pick my pallet, and she has a whole bunch of sizzix because she does daycare and discovered scrapbooking this year @_@

Anyways, onto the cards!

I made this bookmark for myself - it's inspired by lolita "headress" accessories.

I'm sending this card and bookmark to the girl who makes all my lolita clothes (so far - getting a sewing machine for Christmas hehe)

I'm sending this card to a girl I'm doing a lolita skirt exchange with

I love me some good Engrish XD
3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Duster for... the Duster. on: April 26, 2006 05:23:17 PM
Hi everyone! I know I'm new and havent introduced myself, but you seem like a friendly group and able to help ^.^

I've been sewing casually for years (earliest I can remember is when I was about 10... I'll be 32 in 2 months XD) and now I have an absolute DOLL of a boyfriend who is really encouraging and inspiring... I just finished a tunic for him out of this sexy black victorianish print (my first run with grommets - eep! It turned out ok, I only smashed my thumb about a dozen times =P lol. I have a lolita-esque skirt of the same print and my own design, we can be matching witohut being too dorky!) and he was playing the new Kingdom Hearts game, and asked me for a duster. (His name is Dustin. Get it now? Duster for the Duster? hehehehehe.)

I remembered what a PAIN it was to put a collar onto his shirt (stupid me - I was intimidated by the sleeves. Ha! I conquered those beasts but suffered with the nastyass collar T_T) but we decided it just wouldn't look right without one.

I've made a pattern out of newspaper. It looks like everything will fit right, I've got some unique details going on (It's got this funky bat wing theme going on - there will be cargo pockets on the front with little batwing flaps, there will be bat wing patches on the back, and the bottom hem will be all... spikey.. and bat wing-y. Yeah.) and we'll be adding in some straps and D-rings so he can hook up some chains to it and stuff. It'll be funkay.

So my question is - what sort of fabric do you guys suggest for this... sleeveless trenchcoat? We were thinking black and white cotton canvas, with a fur collar (zebra striped if we can find it, otherwise black or white. probably black.) because it's relatively light and durable, and easy to clean. Probably should be affordable for what is essentially a practise piece I'm having a lot of fun with. I'm wondering if maybe it needs a lining or something. Oh! And what sort of closure/fastners I should use. I'm really stuck there, I don't want buttons or a zipper, I was thinking of those plastic clips like on a backpack... I'm kinda stuck on these things.

Any help will be greatly appreciated! ^.^
