2  Re: Colour suggestions for a baby quilt - I don't want to give it seizures in Quilting: Discussion and Questions by ReadingWench on: December 30, 2007 12:10:42 PM
I would suggest Baby flannel or soft cotton, soft yellows and greens. I put batting in it, andput the other side just soft yellow. I made one for my sister at the time she didn't know the sex.

each one of the blocks is 6 inches I believe. My sister said it was great.

5  Re: Making bags sturdy in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions by ReadingWench on: May 13, 2006 02:41:30 AM
That's ok I didn't know what it was either til about 8 months ago. Its used on tha bak of an applique, its used on the back of fabric when sewing on buttons. It strenghtens your fabric. You can get double sided, which you can put in between 2 pieces of fabric.  It will bind them together. You can get one sided, which will only stick to one side. I have used heavy duty one sided to sew bags. My bag...

I used interfacing on both the kids and on the school house. Which made it 4 layers. It's super strong. I also used it in the handles to make them strong. However what I used, the heavy duty WILL make it stiff. As you can see the bag stands up by its self. But there are MANY typed, Go to the fabric store and ask the ladies there for help. They will help you pick the right kind for whatever use you want the bag for.

6  Re: Forest friends in The Swap Gallery by ReadingWench on: May 11, 2006 09:05:14 PM
i called my brother (who lives with me) form work around 3 and was disappointed to hear that no package had arrived for me   Cry  after waiting ALLLLLL day to get home from work, and expecting another long day of waiting ahead of me,  i was ecstatic to see a neat little package sitting on my doorstep!

i can't believe what ratfinkpink sent me.  she could not have been more correct in assessing my tastes and wants!  everything she gave me is beautiful and useful, with a definite vintage feel-- i am in love with this stuff.  she put in so much time and effort to create some amazing pieces! prepare to feel painful twangs of envy!

first of all the box was padded with scraps of fabric, which is thrifty, recycle-y, and will aid me in creating one of those awesome fabric scrap necklaces from the featured projects  Wink.  inside was this:

there are a whole bunch, in different colors!!!

i LOVE owls, and especially anything 60s or 70s looking!  i love how mean and ornery he looks!

the inside of the owl box, and....

what was inside the box!  three AMAZING cuffs... my new favorite accessory!  i'm telling you, she reeeally read my list!  Smiley and, for the grand finale....

HOLY COW!  this is so beautiful.. i can't believe she made it, it's so professional.   here's a detail of the owls:

excuse my crappy camera...

well, this was my first swap and i must say i am soooo happy with how it turned out.  i only hope she likes the things i made for her half as much as i love my new owl accessories!  THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU, RATFINKPINK!!!!!!   Grin Grin Grin Grin

She did an amazing job. They are all awesome!!!!!

7  Re: *Flower Circle Skirt* TUTORIAL ADDED in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by ReadingWench on: May 09, 2006 05:47:31 PM

I made this last night. The waist was WAY to big. When doing the calcuatioins and on that web site you mentioned, I said it was 4 inches smaller than my waist really is. Yeah, WAY to big. But after making a simple waist band and gathering it here and there. Its done.
