1  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Store Blog vs. Personal Blog on: January 05, 2009 11:50:37 AM
How many of you have blogs that exist solely to discuss store updates and other related posts?  Is there a benefit to doing this versus posting shop updates on your personal(ish) blog?  Should I do both?

I have a blog on which I write about crafts, cooking, life in general - but is this something that I should keep separate and apart from my shop (it is called a different name than my shop)?  Should I start a blog just for shop discussion?

Any thoughts on this?
2  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / Is Cross-Posting Allowed? on: December 08, 2008 04:09:51 PM
Lately, I have seen a ton of completed projects cross-posted into two different boards (one example is sewing clothes for kids and clothing: completed projects, but there are others).  Is this allowed?  My instinct is always to report the cross-posted threads, but I don't because I'm not sure what the rules are and haven't been able to find them by searching.  Anybody know?
3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / First Married Christmas Gift Ideas? on: November 23, 2008 09:07:20 AM
My husband and I got married in August, and this will be our first Christmas as Mr. and Mrs.  Does anyone have any ideas of special memento type things I could make to commemorate our first Christmas after getting married for us to keep and be able to show our kids one day?
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Does stockinette in the round curl? ...and other questions. on: November 11, 2008 02:50:48 PM
I always have a hard time with the concept of knitting stockinette in the round.  I'm looking to knit this stocking (http://happybuela.typepad.com/happybuela/files/ellas_felted_christmas_stocking.pdf) but I DON'T want to felt it.  I'd like to knit it in stockinette, but I want to make sure the top doesn't curl.  I thought I remembered something about stockinette knit in the round not curling, but I'm not sure.  Does anybody know?

If it DOES curl, can anybody recommend an alternate stitch that will blend with stockinette pretty well?  I know seed and garter stitch both are good for bordering stockinette, but they're a little bit too obvious (in shape and bulk) for this project.
5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Ruby_soho's August 23 Wedding! on: September 15, 2008 12:41:49 PM
I have gabbed about it since forever, but we're (finally) married and I (finally) have pictures to prove it!  Here are things I made...

The invitations:

The programs, sign, and a bit of the basket I decorated...

The guest"book" table - not quite so crafty, but I decorated it, so... it fits, right?

Centerpieces (all of the guests' tables had solid-color daisies, this is the head table that had red and white daisies):

Corsages for the moms:

Bouquets and Boutonnieres (as modeled by the wedding party):

Ring pillow (and a closer shot of a butonniere):

Cake "topper", which was made before we decided on the plate-tier cupcake set-up (and my husband getting a napkin to clean up the cake smear - hah!):

Candy Buffet Containers & Candy Buffet:

And the arch!

What do ya think?
6  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / HELP! Felting Garter Stitch/Stockinette in The Round on: July 24, 2008 09:33:23 AM
Ack!  I have been knitting http://www.deborahgray.org/2006/11/25/knitted-felted-bowl-pattern/ this bowl, going by the pattern which says to knit in stockinette stitch.  Stupidly forgetting that I was knitting in the round, I did 1 knit row, 1 purl row, making it look like garter stitch.  I know I was meant to knit every stitch, according to the pictures on the pattern page, but I'm doing the decreases now and don't particularly want to start over.

Will this still felt up like it's supposed to?  Will I have to start over?  Will it make a difference in the appearance of the finished bowl?  Does anyone know??   Sad
7  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Clutches that AREN'T felted? on: July 07, 2008 03:56:23 PM
I am having the most difficult time trying to find a pattern for a clutch that isn't felted.  Does anyone know of one?

(Something like http://www.dailyknitter.com/carrie.html that is probably easiest but I swear I've seen one that opens at the top that's sort of ribbed at the top and then a flat stitch for the rest...)

Thanks in advance for any ideas Cheesy
8  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Bathroom Words? on: April 26, 2008 11:48:39 AM
I'm in the process of decorating my bathroom and would like to paint a word and frame it...  Something like those love/peace/dream/etc but more bathroom-centric.  Also, bonus points if it's gender neutral (so no "powder room" or "makeup" or... anything of that nature) because although i am girly, my fiance is not.   Tongue

Any ideas for words to paint?
9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Red, White, Black, and Silver Daisy Wedding Invitations [IMG PHAT] on: April 16, 2008 09:18:30 PM
Two weekends ago, my fiance, his mom, and I knocked out our wedding invites after I had been obsessing over them for ages.  All of this was done in MS Word and Photoshop and it was printed at Kinkos.

The outside:  Red Cardstock wrapped with silver and black ribbon, and a tag on top specifying the guest's name(s).

The flip side:  The outside back.  The ribbon holds onto the RSVP card and the map/accommodations card.

The address side of the RSVP postcard, complete with an Alaska highway stamp (because i'm from Alaska - I scored these on eBay for cheap, which I liked because I didn't want to have to use the panthers.   Lips sealed  also, they are 29 cent stamps, which still works after postage goes up in May):

The information side of the RSVP postcard, design based on TheBon's RSVPS:

The Map/Accommodations card, Map side.  Design based on Wedding Mapper.

The Map/Accommodations card, Accommodations side.

and, finally, the inside of the cardstock, the ACTUAL INVITE:

...and the envelopes, hand addressed by moi; and, at the bottom, the return address label (for good measure).

Please pardon the ghetto censoring - I didn't have time to futz with photoshop Cheesy

So?  Whaddaya think?  Very un-pokeball, yeah?  They'll be going out next week-ish Cheesy

ETA:  crap.  i didn't realize these pics were so washed out when i posted... you can get the gist, though, right?
