1  First gingerbread house. in CHALLENGE 58 ENTRIES by happycabbage on: January 06, 2011 08:38:40 PM
So I saw the challenge for this month and figured I'll make it not only my first entry into a Craftster challenge but my first gingerbread house. I've done more than my share of baking but no real decorating or anything quite this elaborate. I wanted to do a classic simple design. And in the end it came out a bit more simple than i wanted, what with time running out and my procrastination skills. I just clicked some random link on google for the gingerbread recipe and crossed my fingers! It worked well but I tweaked it a bit so I'm not sure how the actual recipe it. It was more of a guideline. http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Childrens-Gingerbread-House/Detail.aspx The roof tiles were of some sugar cookie dough I had frozen and dyed varying shades of blue. I used squished cupcakes for the conical shape of the trees and the shrubs and piped icing onto those. Everything i made was from scratch except the cake mix. I used two types of icing. Standard royal icing for glue and the snowy base and when I made the cupcakes I still have plenty to eat so I mixed up some frosting which I later dyed and used for all the piping. Which turned out to actually be the best frosting ever. Make some. Trust me. http://thepioneerwoman.com/tasty-kitchen/recipes/desserts/thate28099s-the-best-frosting-ie28099ve-ever-had// The stepping stones were a mix of the frosting, nutella and caramel. I didn't have any brown coloring. Cheesy Snowman arms are thyme and carrot noses are from some leftover candy corn. And finally a dusting of powdered sugar.

2  Macro challenge...cake! in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by happycabbage on: May 12, 2008 03:27:12 PM
My boyfriend suggested I enter this one. Because its colorful. All the editing I did was a bit of contrast. And of course my username.

3  New quilter needs help... in Quilting: Discussion and Questions by happycabbage on: December 11, 2005 01:22:59 PM
I think this got lost in the crash, so here goes again!  Wink (thanks to whoever it was who responded before! though I managed to forget what stuff you mentioned using instead.)

Well in geometry we had to make our own patterns and blocks. And I helped a lot with the quilting itself, otherwise, Im new. But I do have a lot of sewing and whatnot under my belt. I want to make a Slipknot quilt for my boyfriends birthday and Im not sure how to go about it. So far Im just going to put their 'S' on it, maybe their name logo.

I want the background to be a solid piece of black. So, should I cut a "hole" in the black for the 's' and then sew the 's' into place and go about quilting as usual? Or should I just use a solid piece of black and sew the 's' onto it and leave the edges to fray, which I think might look well with a metal-band quilt. Or is there some other technique for doing this that I dont know about? I really have no idea where to go with this.
