1  CLOTHING / Sewing Pattern Reviews / Re: mccall's m3584 halter dress done! on: February 14, 2007 08:09:29 PM
thanks again for all the compliments!

*k*: i did have a hard time w/ the bust looking 'pointy' and i reworked the bust shaping several times.  it's still not perfect, and i'm not full-chested which doesn't help, but it's a lot better than where it started.  i figured i'd knit a little matching shawl or shrug to wear over my shoulders and cover myself if i still felt self-conscious about it.  i'm not sure that a stiffer fabric would help...it may create a stiffer point!  if i use this pattern again, i'll keep the shaping to a minimum (less pleats).  i agree, the bust was HUGE and it was really frustrating to fix, but now i have the pattern marked for next time.

GORGEOUS!  i'm scared of lace, but seeing f.o.'s like this is so inspiring.

i've never seen any of these books, but i have a few that i'm interested in.  would i even be able to make anything from them w/out knowing how to read them?...or would it just be eye candy for me?

svea, this post on knitter's review explains the picot bind off (they start talking about how to start the thumb, but someone asks about the picot bind off so just keep reading): http://www.knittersreview.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=63278

cranberry, i used a superwash wool yarn that's more for socks, so it wears well.  no pills yet.  i wanted to make sure i could wash them after use.

This looks great.  Any mods to the pattern?

nope!  i made it just as it was written.  if i make them again, i'd add a couple more cables to the top so my fingers get more coverage.
