121  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: Packaging Tape Wallet & Tutorial on: October 03, 2004 02:53:40 PM
i made of a couple of these wallets, out of old artforum magazines and graffiti mags. (thank you for the tutorial!)  i love the way they turned out. if i were more digitally inclined, i would include photos perhaps...

one problem- friends keep complaining that they slip and slide right out of their pockets!

does anyone have any suggestions on how to remedy this? (i thought putting a strip of velcro on one side might work...haven't tried it yet, but i'm also looking to maintain the aesthetic of the wallet. perhaps funky colored velcro would be cooler...)

very nice job!

a few years back, i did a series of candles like that with dead or aging female pop stars (dusty springfield, diana ross to name a couple). i used mod podge to secure the pictures and a hot(ish) glue gun for the gems, and have yet to have a fire or peeling disaster.

those are dang fantastic!
and i'm with most of you...i have bags of fabric...bottletops...old christmas lightbulbs...batteries (don't ask) that have been laying around for years. i've even moved twice with most of this stuff. sigh...some day the packrats will inherit the earth...
124  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re:Sketch Book Covered with Record/Album Cover on: October 12, 2003 03:03:06 PM
I've been looking for a place to share album cover/old vinyl ideas, and all of these are faaaabulous. I have a lot of musicminded friends (as I am), and I have this idea to share (my apologies for lack of pictures...I have issues with computers, and if I try to hook up a digital camera, things start to smoke...bells and whistles sound...you get the idea).

I made album covers into PICTURE ALBUMS.  I bought:
*a pack of archival paper, with three hole punches in it at an art store (can also be purchased at some book stores like Borders, Barnes and Noble, etc.)
*a pack of notebook rings from an office supply store
* as well as some clear contact paper.

Other items of necessity:
*old album covers of your choice
*paper hole punch
*scissors/exacto/utility knife
*penci

Carefully separate the album cover front from back (using a scissors or exacto knife) and trim down the edges so nothing is frayed. Cover each side with contact paper (I like to reinforce edges with extra clear tape/contact paper) or laminate it if you prefer.  Lay one of your archival photo pages on the cover and back, and lightly mark with a pencil where the three holes will be punched. Punch the holes, lay the photo pages between the cover and back, secure the rings in the holes and you're finished!

It's fun to present this as a gift with a pack of photo corners, so your buddies can get to scrapbooking/storing their memories.  It holds together well, and is cheaper than having it done at a copy shop or printing place.
